Sharing Dump Pouch Patterns/Designs

This is helpful, so you are installing the snaps yourself and making the molle attachments? I have been sewing mine in with buckles and I am not a big fan of the design I came up with so far to be honest. Do you worry about the snaps coming undone if it gets caught on something going up the tree. How do the pouches ride on the saddle with the placement of the horizontal strap.

Yes...the snaps I have been using are very easy. Install before sewing the webbing on. Just need a hammer and a solid surface.

I don't worry about the snaps coming undone now that I put the horizontal piece on there. The strap runs thru the molle webbing on the saddle, back under the horizontal piece of webbing and then snaps. So your forces are not typically pulling the snap apart, but pulling sideways. Hopefully that make sense.

sorry guys but side bar:
@shwacker Why are you on the internet in ALASKA? you there for work or vacation? we need some pics!!!!!!!!!!

Lol, just in the between time of doing stuff. Just did a little horse ride, hiked a glacier yesterday. Seen a few moose. Some big wildfires up here right now, so while still pretty awesome we have not gotten the spectacular views we hoped for.

Bout to go to a baseball game. Up in Palmer now, headed down to kenai tomorrow evening. Gonna try to get some salmon and have an offshore halibut trip scheduled too. Florida boy couldn’t survive a winter here but this 70 degree summer is jam the F up!!!

man I use a shoe bag I stole from my wife - it's soft like fleece totally silent and collapses when empty so it's always laying flat - love the simplicity of it - I just added molle strips to it and it hooks to the back of my kestrel

Makes me think of the crown royal bags we used to use to hold marbles... too bad they are purple, their light collapsible...tasty... what more do you want. Lol.

I put my design and info in a new thread to not overwhelm this one with pics and bury the info here.

You can find it here: https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/diy-dump-pouch.15626/#post-225758

This was very helpful to all you reading the thread. Awesome step by step that I haven’t seen elsewhere on the forum. Who else out there has some pouch designs?

@Darmstrong1223 would love to see your addition to this thread

Ok, prototype #2 is much smaller and I like the size. Very compact and non-bulky. Meant to put prototype #1 here but accidentally spammed @skell’s thread listed above. This one is @skell’s pattern but changed the starting fabric size to 18x10. Also for the bottom corners only came in 1 1/2” instead of 2.
Finished size is approx 6.5” x 6.5” x 3” and I can easily fit my tether with Ropeman and carabiner.

How do you feel about the way it rides? I am working on some new pouches now modified of @skell designs. I am thinking the lower attachment point will keep them closer to my saddle. My current pouches just seem to swing way out when I am climbing and it bothers me. I bet that fleece is dead quiet!

The fleece is dead quiet - these won't last a lifetime but should hold up for quite a few years.
My pouches last year were about 7.5" tall by 8.5" wide. This new one is only 6.5"-7" tall so there's not a whole lot of flop happening. I might try @skell's design with the molle straps too just for comparison.

Yea when I make my next batch I'll take some pics and post the different attachment levels for comparison. I am thinking of making one with a nylon upper drawstring area like some of the commercial dump pouches available online. I think it will be easier to get full closure to contain my pullup rope etc with the cordura I am using. Your fleece is so pliable I don't see closure as an issue.

That looks great! I may have to pick up some fleece! That size looks better too.
