This biner is rated at 7kn for crossloading,i am 200#.
Right on. Still, think we had a few conversations about it over the past year and agreed it was a bad idea to be using a regular carabiner on a tether eye that way. This biner is rated at 7kn for crossloading,i am 200#.
well thank you for the info,i would rather be safe than sorry.Right on. Still, think we had a few conversations about it over the past year and agreed it was a bad idea to be using a regular carabiner on a tether eye that way.
Is the "workhorse" ready yet?@Red Beard looked so good in the previews you made me order a solo scout!
Red Beard and I are working on a material list so I can get a DIY kit made up and a price for it. The kit will include:
- 12' Daisy Chain (8" Daisy Chains and 4' for a "leash"
- 2 1/4" or 3/16" hanks for splicing into the daisy chain to make your steps
- 1 1/4" hank for making the soft shackle / I might even premake the soft shackle (undecided yet)
So the only thing outside of the kit you will need would be the camjam and protective sheath that surrounds the daisy chain
A plus about the work horse is that it could be used on other sticks and climbing methods as well.
I will be posting a video on youtube on assembling the kit along with prices.
Thank you,
Sam Switalski

I guess I'll hold off on my weekly order from EWO until it's ready

For sure, I knew it was a kit. All good! Looking forward to ordering it.We are working on getting a work horse “kit” together. And then a splicing kit sold separately from DanO so you can put the steps wherever you want. There will be a video link sent on how to splice your steps, soft shackles, etc. we figured it would be the easiest way to do this
A regular carabiner could open or even a spin locking carabiner could roll against the tree and become unlocked. I would consider an autolocking to be minimal to assure me it has additional safety. A screw link or figure eight loop alone would be best, all things considered. Cross the rope over the gate of a regular carabiner and pull. It will instantly release the rope. When I first saw this my eyes nearly bugged out of my head. I clip my keys on a large ring to my belt with a carabiner and use this pull against the gate to release them instantly. An unlocked locking carabiner will do this, an autolocker will not. Professional arborist associations insist on triple autolocking for more safety.well thank you for the info,i would rather be safe than sorry.

Good thought here friend! And welcome! Glad to see new guys springing upI am new Here. Phantom and platform in hand, ropes come Monday. I am wondering about moving the solo scout (Detaching and reattaching)- what if you slip and drop it? You’d rappel down and start over? Seems like a small Paracord wriststrap by the buckle would give a little bit of peace of mind. Or put your hand through the aider first....Maybe it’s not a concern. I was imagining me dropping that thing in the dark.
Also, check out my video on other goodies in the bag if you're worried about dropping other stuff. Got you covered there too buddyYou’d rappel down and start over?

Good work fellas. Thank you for sharing. I didn’t hear if you mentioned if @Sam Switalski would be selling the whole kit and if so how much?
The top one was a distel hitch. It was my bridge connection. The bottom one is an autoblock (13.5 inch hollowblock). It aids in regulating your decent speed and lets you to go hands-free when retrieving sticks.@Red Beard, probably a dumb question, but I watched your rappelling video again and noticed you have what looks like 2 prusiks and carabiners on your rappel rope. Can you explain? I’ve never rappelled but after seeing this slick climbing method, I’m extremely interested!
