Green light headlamp

As shy as deer are I really don't think a red, green, blue light ect matters. I would worry more about casting too much light and movement of said light (i.e. Climbing up a tree with a headlight on). Deer have more rods than cones and see exceptionally better than humans in lower light. Much like ambient light through night vision vs naked eye. The red vs green debate is more subjective to human sight and the military. When I went through sniper school and combat tracker a push for blue light was pushed by several instructors and students if light was needed. Bottom line is don't cast more light than you need and slow down and be a little quieter. People have a tendency to sound like herd elephants walking around once the lights are on. Stealth goes out the window.

As for lights that work I like basic petzl tactikka and cyclops titan. Fenix hl is a good mid price range. Zebralight is the best light imo if money's not an issue ($90). surefire is awesome but the money is better spent elsewhere. The black diamonds I used had a tendency to turn on in pouches accidentally due to the big sensitive push button on top. Bit of joy kill to find zapped batteries when you're at the truck pulling your gear out for the walk in. I have 3 baseline items a light has to have for
Me:
1. Adjustable dimmer where I can have a speck of light all the way up to headlight bright.
2. Not easily turned on (pouch issue)
3. Have no issues in the rain or snow

Just my 2 cents

Best $14 I ever spent, learned about it from Gritty Bowmen podcast(if your a gear guy you need to listen to these their awesome) no buttons, all touch control by swiping the face. Super bright, red option, dimmable, waterproof and small.

My eyes adjust better to dim red light and going back to darkness. I only use the brighter red LED when I need it (unfamiliar ground). I never use white light in the woods. When it's too bright where I am, I lose my bearings because you can no longer see the dark woods around you

I got the red one this year. good light, but you've got to scroll through the dim/bright/strobe everytime you want to turn on/off and get back to dim

I searched LED Flashlight Filter on amazon. There's some nice flashlights now that have clip on filters as well as quite a few full time red lights

I use a green lead that way I don't lose my night vision. My light is made by Browning and it clips to my hat and it also has a white light on it.

My requirements were:
1. Common battery (takes AAA)
2. Defaults to dim red light
3. Small
4. Waterproof (I have one that I ran through a full wash cycle and came out still on)

The Fred is good on batteries though I don't remember exactly specs.

One press gets dim red light. Two presses bright red. One long press dim white light, then subsequent presses gets you brighter white. One quick press turns it off. It's not super bright at the highest setting, and I consider that the only drawback.

I have something very similar to this with a red filter from probably 15 years ago. It might actually be the oldest piece of gear I take with me now. I've used it pretty much solely since I got it; archery, rifle, spring gobbler. Somehow I haven't broke it or lost it yet. The red light is what I use most of the time. Not super bright but plenty to follow a pre determined trail. It's nice and small so it doesn't take up much space and I like that it's just the single headband. It also wasn't near the price it is now. I prefer red light, it makes the most sense to me but your not gonna find a light they can't see that you can. I go by the info that they don't see the lower end of the spectrum as well and reds as low as you can go.

I upgraded to the black diamond storm last year. Spendy, but worth it. Green and red light, white light, dimming, lock out capability. Incredible upgrade from my old tactikka.

Yep my eyes adjust to dim red light better too. But I carry a bright Streamlight flashlight with me too as a backup. It lights up the woods and kills your night vision but it's good when you're wondering around saying, "damn I made a wrong turn somewhere"

Yup it looks nice. I'll be looking at it when it's time to replace, that just doesn't look like it will need to happen any time soon. I have two freds that I use year round for everything I can think of.

Good thing is its got separate switches. One for red, one for regular light. No modes, just on/off and the red light is slightly dimmer than the amazon Wally one's dim setting.
Switch button is just as loud as the Wally, but you don't have to click it multiple times in order to scroll through light modes

I'm glad it's a trend. I'd like to find a little red Fenix or Streamlight. I carry a small streamlight and would prefer a red one.

that head lamp is spot eyes only really & when its time to shoot the animal has already been identified & this light is shut down/turned off and the gun light which is already on low put on the animal and turned up...........Coyote Light best gun light u can get as well IMO .......nothin to do with this but just the explanation...........plus I think that manican head makes it look larger than it really is.....hahahahahaha...good luck!!!!!!!
