We're still at an impasse on the fence situation. I proactively planted some arbor vitae. I know within a couple feet of where the property line is, good enough for that purpose. I was kinda playing with the guy, once he pulled onx up.

The SH Membership has gone live. Only SH Members have access to post in the classifieds. All members can view the classifieds. Starting in 2020 only SH Members will be admitted to the annual hunting contest. Current members will need to follow these steps to upgrade: 1. Click on your username 2. Click on Account upgrades 3. Choose SH Member and purchase.

OnX ads complaint/rant

Don't get me wrong, I use the OnX chip on my Garmin to flag the trees near my property line and hang No Tresspassing signs. But I know it's not precise. I also know where the survey stakes are and can use a lensatic compass to extrapolate with a reasonable degree of comfort. And planted several hundred acorns along my property line... reading up on osage orange I'm going to buy a hedge apple and try to get some seeds from it to plant in the spring, along another property line. Apparently it can grow 2-3 yards the first year and can be trained into a thorny, impenetrable living fence. That you can cut bow staves and fenceposts from.
The osage, hedge apples are great for a fence/border. In the old days they would get thousands of those hedge apples and put them in a big container and let them rot some and add water. Then they would cut a trench where they wanted the fence and pour that hedge apple slurry in there and cover it over, so I am told.
I've read about that. I don't think I'm willing to pay for enough hedge apples at the grocery store to try that approach, but I can let one rot / stratify over the winter and harvest the seeds in the spring.

I don’t recall seeing adds on my OnX, I have the paid version. I have an iPhone 6 and have no problems other than getting service sometimes, easily remedied by downloading the offline maps. I personally think it’s one of the best tools I’m my box.

I did, and was promised that I’d see all kinds of wonderful things if I just kept paying for them to be developed. But I never did see those things, just more empty promises.

Exactly what I did. I like having both for different things, pretty much just what you said.
I'm trying not to buy OnX again but I sure miss a few things
I have GAIA and added SF a couple months back. SF is awesome for hunting. I use GAIA a LOT for work. GAIA also shows up with Apple Car Play so I use it as my base map. MVUM layer is great for NF and private ownership is always good to know.
I’m going to get OnX before the next hunting season simply so that I can interface with my hunting buddies. But I’ll continue to rely on Gaia for all my personal mapping, scouting, navigating and all the important stuff.
I have been using GAIA for years and am a huge fan. It's front end ease of use is quick and convenient and it does not have all the unnecessary (IMO) bells and whistles. It is a quick click to add a waypoint and I can quickly add descriptors or adjust the waypoint icon and color. I don't really need a thousand different icons, when I scout I am looking for a few key pieces of intel that I mark. I really just need an accurate GPS with offline capabilities, route tracking and waypoints. I know everyones approach to scouting is different but this suits mine perfectly. I agree with the earlier comments about not wasting time with ads and pop ups. I turn my tracker on and walk, I don't think about it too much until I see something to mark then I want a quick interaction with my app and back to walking. Another nice thing with GAIA is you pay the subscription fee for all maps in the USA not just one state. When I have had issues their customer service team has been receptive and communicated quickly.
I share waypoints with my brother who uses ONX and I just have to make sure when I export it that I save it in the file format that the importing app uses. GAIA gives an option to share a waypoint as a snapshot/screenshot, a clickable link, or as a file. The file can be saved as a GPX, KML or GeoJSON for use with other apps. I would think that other apps besides GAIA offer this you just have to dig a little.

this is exactly my experience with Gaia. I need to figure out how to export and share waypoints the way you are suggesting. That would solve my communication issues with hunting buddies.
When in your app click the waypoint you want to share, it will bring up a Marked Location box. Click the 3 dots next to the waypoint item in that screen and click share. That should show you the 3 sharing types. I think ONX uses GPX or KML.
