Congratulations to the Tethrdnation team for creating the Mantis. I know the feeling. 34 years ago when New Tribe was born, my partner and I created the first really comfortable tree climbing saddle for ourselves. Everything New Tribe does begins as a DIY solution to problems nobody has solved before.

It was a hunter who came to New Tribe asking if we could design a saddle for hunters. Everything we do for hunters is made with input from hunters themselves. It is because we listen to you that saddle hunting has taken such a surge forward in the past few years.

Mantis did not arise in a vacuum. I’m glad you mentioned that Mantis was developed from a Kestrel clone. That makes the Aero Hunter Kestrel your ancestor. Your product is competition for us, and that’s a great thing. Competition drives innovation, and gives the community more choices. And it tells us we’re on the right track with the new designs we have underway.

We love seeing the entrepreneurial spirit flourish in your work. But a strong product can stand on its own without putting its competition down. So be nice, friends. We’re all in this together. Respect your ancestor and your path will lead to success.

BTW—Aero Hunter/New Tribe is not a big corporation. We are eight souls working out of a tiny shop in rural Oregon.

Things were getting slow on the site. Glad this post came up, even if I hate secrets and discovered all my so called friends have been conspiring and laughing at us behind our back. I guess I’ll forgive them and not have to ban them since they are such a big part of this site. I mean, how could we continue on without the Friday night juke box. It plays an important roll in saddle hunting. You can’t climb without a rhythm and there is no better way to practice rhythm weekly.

Great post - much respect and love for your product and for being on the leading edge for us. It is because of the thoughtful and thorough efforts you and @Boudreaux put into it that has sparked the recent surge. I have every confidence your company and products you bring to market will have future success in our space and continue to help us get better. I know there’s a strong chance I get a Mantis due to the fact I hunt in warm weather but I can assure you the Kestrel will never see the classifieds and will part of my setup for a while. Simply put so many of us got started with this community because of the Kestrel. Thanks and good luck to you in the future. Jay

Did you put a belay loop on the front for SRT @Erniepower I remember you saying how you wished saddles had one at saddleplooza? Or is this still a secret?

if you are handy with a thread injector, you can replace the buckle on your current saddle with this one.

We added anti-gravity adjusters that attach to the molle loops. Bigger sizes will require more adjusters than others but this will allow you to float effortlessly if you need to step off your platform.

That’s why he’s on the pro staff right there. Just ask and you receive.

Agree with all comments. If someone has bashed the Kestrel or AeroHunter that's no bueno. I don't remember any other saddle companies donating 4 CUSTOM SADDLES to you guys for SaddlePalooza!!!!! AH makes a fantastic saddle that any saddle hunter would be lucky to have. I've personally recommended it to hundreds of prospective saddle hunting converts.

In my opinion saddle hunting has been seeing evolutionary change as opposed to revolutionary. The Trophyline Tree Saddle was a great product that hooked a lot of us on saddle hunting. It was great, but there was room for improvement. Many saddle addicts like myself started pursuing ultralight DIY saddles like the SitDrag, fleece saddles, modified Anderson slings, the Kenn1320 sling, Preacher Seats, and the list goes on and on. The Kestrel was eventually developed along those same lines...a light, safe saddle that worked for everyone. Personally I don't think the pursuit will ever stop. I'm not sure I want it to end.

Tethrd and the Mantis with Predator platform (plus some other goodies ;) ;) ) is the next evolution for saddle hunters born from the previously mentioned pursuit of the ultimate ULTRALIGHT versatile hunting saddle. There will be more.

Make no mistake, it is far from a "clone" or a "descendant" of anything. I'm not sure where that idea came from, but it couldn't be further from the truth. I have a garage full of hacked up Trophyline products, Sitdrags, MILSPEC creations, custom sew jobs, and ideas that never panned out that led to the ultimate development of the Mantis. We put an all-star cast together on the Tethrd Team with close to 100 YEARS of combined saddle hunting experience. It's pretty amazing and I feel incredibly lucky to be a small part of it.

Saddle Nation - BE HAPPY!!!! Saddle hunting is a small niche market and the goal is to watch it grow. The more it grows, everyone wins. Growth inspires innovation. When new blood and fresh ideas get injected into our community - we all win!!!! Like a lot of you innovators reading this post, I've given literally thousands of hours of my own free time building new ideas, creating content, starting conversations, hosting events, and helping new converts all with the goal of growing the Saddle Hunter Nation.

That's the goal of Tethrd. Create new saddle hunters. Period.

Oh yeah, please support Tethrd on June 1st :)

Hypothetically speaking of course; ;) Let's say there will be sizes available in,...oh I don't know,...Medium, Large and X-Large, how would a guy go about choosing which size to purchase? Waist? Butt? Junk? o_O Maybe flinginairos can shed some light on this? :tearsofjoy:

judging my the pic posted earlier, flinginairos definitely wears a small..

Well said!! I think it is important for people to not just give up on Newtribe but like you have said just find a system that gets you into the trees. Saddles have been approaching the evolutionary process for quite some time. The Mantis is the current product of that evolution which will then create more ideas potentially from the diyers and Newtribe. This is all good with me because it will continue to propel our community forward. Love the kestrel now i want to try the mantis and who knows i like my ring of steps but i might be interested in going towards the predator platform to try. Either way there is a new dog in town i.e. “Tethrd” which should get the support that it deserves just as we have given to NewTribe and will continue to do.

Hats off to Newtribe for their support and products and welcome Tethrd to the party.

Agree and I haven't heard any myself. I don't see why we should or would? make no sense

You are such a tease

I think it was said that when a certain member made the clone it was realized he had mad skills and could sew/ make prototypes. NOT suggesting AT ALL that the MANTIS is in any way shape or form a clone. PERIOD...........( did i get enough PERIODS in there....)

Saddle Nation - BE HAPPY!!!! Saddle hunting is a small niche market and the goal is to watch it grow. The more it grows, everyone wins. Growth inspires innovation.
