We've been working hard the past few weeks to come up with some big changes to our vendor policies to meet the changing needs of our community. Please see the new vendor rules here:

For those who have been around here a while, dump something in this thread "from the archives" that makes you smile or laugh. DIY stuff from the "good old days" or ideas/info that helped you starting out. Saddle nostalgia...
Example, I'll go first with these classics: (Not my photos)
Tell us about your opening day experience:
Did you hunt local/private or out of a camp? What did you see? Did you get anything? Let's see some pics and hear stories...
An unfortunate series of events just now reminded me of this thread. It is my favorite of all time, and it's not even close.
Thread 'Everybody Poops' https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/everybody-poops.11809/
I don't know if it's a true story or not. I don't know if it's...
How many of you have done this?
* Step in scat en route to tree
* Step on stick to climb
* Grab stick
* Touch everything in your possession
* Repeat 3-4x
* Realize what you've done... :mad:
I just did it again. That makes number 5 or 6 for me... Going to have to start bringing a mat to wipe...
Went into an area blind that is historically good this time of year. Found some hot sign, climbed a real crappy tree 20 yds from a scrape. He appeared out of nowhere after a couple of grunts. Shot him with 30 min of light left. Poor blood trail thru a jungle of brush. Backed out and returned...
I am putting an addition onto our house. If I get a buck this year, I would like to have him Euro mounted and put the skull at the new front porch peak.
Has anybody left a Euro mounted skull outside in the elements? Will it be ruined or will it last awhile? Thoughts?
Thinking about making my own DIY ski bridle/tube tow harness for the boat out of 1/4 Amsteel. Any reason why this wouldn't work? Most ski/tube rope are rated at ~6,000 lb break strength. Amsteel 1/4 should be 7,000+ lbs.
Thoughts?
"I just shot a nice buck."
That's what the text from my Dad read one hour before dark on the last day of bow season. I told him to sit tight and I would there ASAP. He said the deer barely reacted to the shot, and walked away slowly until he went out of sight. This description gave me the bad...
Post a picture of a deer you have on camera. Other guys say whether they would shoot or pass. Let's not be too serious here. I'm going for laughs and entertainment...
Shoot or Pass? :tearsofjoy:
I made some treestand safety ropes for my neighbor and thought of a cheap, easy way to make the cowbell carabiner covers to avoid metal on metal clanking.
I took some empty plastic sports drink bottles, cleaned them out, cut the ends off, and cut half inch slits into the sides:
Then I wrapped...
I am tired of dragging bodies through the woods.
I would like to start packing deer out, but don't want to carry an enormous overkill western style elk pack everywhere.
What's the smallest pack that would be usable without a trip back to the truck first? Is a frame pack necessary? What...
I posted a couple pics of him in the Hickory Creek Koolaid thread, but never noticed the fang until I got the euro mount back... Thought y'all might like to see it:
Let me preface this by saying...I hate silver skin and connective tissue on the meat. I am OCD when it comes to trimming away all the gross gunk...
That said, I just shot a buck that had a huge neck and I pulled a bunch of neck meat from him. However, it is pretty tough and grisly. I could...
On the way in and while climbing... How do you carry your ROS?
In your pack? Strapped to the outside? Attached to your saddle?
Looking for max efficiency and min noise...
1. What are the legal requirements in your state? Can you shoot any antlered buck or are there size/point restrictions?
2. What are your personal requirements? Do you shoot the first legal buck you see? Do you shoot the first buck that gets you excited? Do you wait for a particular size or...
