Had to do a fast emergency rappel out of my tree this morning.

It wasnt uproven. In the Marine Corps we were issued quite similar set ups as ultra light rappelling kit. We trained on them & we ended having to use them a couple times. We got kevlar string, two GI carabiners and some GI flat rope (solid woven 1" webbing) to tie a swiss seat harness with. I...

Had to do a fast emergency rappel out of my tree this morning.

Thought there might be something in my story that may help save a life, lessen harm or damage, etc. http://www.tndeer.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=336448

Helium Stick Modification - a closer look

My fault was caution and caring? Ok. Noted. I come across as arrogant? Ok. New policy. I won't open my mouth unless I'm specifically asked of my opinion. I have seen gear failure and people fall to their death. Perhaps that level of rope sobriety is too much for this place. Its where I come...

Helium Stick Modification - a closer look

Dear JSD, If you read any negative thing into my former reply to this post I send heart felt and real apology. It certainly was not intended. Im very appeciative that through your posts and our exchanges I learned how to climb with just an aider and a tether. Thank you. If I can help you or be...

Helium Stick Modification - a closer look

Dave, Great video! I used some Ideas of yours on my helium stick. Thanks! BUT!!!... I wanted to bring it to your attention that the "water knot" you used and showed in the video to tie the ends of your green webbing steps together is not a water knot...its tied incorrectly. You simply tied an...

How I tie a stronger Prussik knot.

Yes triple fishermans knot is reccomended for making a loop...as in a continuous loop...as in tying the two ends of a length of cord together. For a loop on one end of the line...as in making a rope tether...I used a double figure 8 loop backed up with a double overhand knot.

How I tie a stronger Prussik knot.

I'm on BlueWater Titan 5.5mm in the color of black, 14' worth before knots for the tether... And BlueWater Titan 4mm in camo...2 maybe 2.5 ft for my two prussiks. Yes it's wonderfully light and plenty strong in my opinion. Dyneema is just another company's trademarked name for UHMWPE which is...

How I tie a stronger Prussik knot.

Thanks on the clever compliment. Yes my 14' (total rope length before knots) 5.5mm dyneema tether line and the 2' worth of 4mm dyneema for the 2 prussiks are wonderfully light. Im undefeated and happy as a pig in slop! LoL.

How I tie a stronger Prussik knot.

How I tie a stronger Prussik knot.

I have two prussik knots yes... Not because of the smaller rope im using but rather its always good to have at least one back up to your primary. But yes as a by product it does bring more tensile strength on board.

How I tie a stronger Prussik knot.

    Yes exactly, thank you.

How I tie a stronger Prussik knot.

Ummm..... The only place to use a fishermans knot in a prussik is to make a loop out of the prussik cord...which im saying in this post not to do... Im not sure I understand you. Sorry.

For you guys that rappell down your tree....

No need to spend the money unless you just want to...a leg wrap is perfectly safe freeing both hands from an ATC. I describe it above. Either way... Good luck on your next hunt.

For you guys that rappell down your tree....

Im climbing with my tether and just an aider.(until my 1 helium stick arrives in the mail.) With climbing with a tether and aider I just climb down to my platform on the aider. I hook up my L belt and unrig the platform and stow it in the bag on my tree saddle belt. I unhook and stow my L belt...

Hunting with a ground length tether?

Walmart sells a rubber coated gear hooks with a woodscrew on the end for like $1. I have 3 in my saddle gear. Maybe you could put all the stuff you leave on the ground in your pack and hang it on a hook with you in the tree? Thats what I do. And if you hang your pack at the right height it gives...
