2024 Off-Season Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

stick with it everyone, these workouts will come in handy not only when you're dragging out a booner this upcoming season, but in general life as well!

This reminded me of something I’m not sure was mentioned or experienced by anyone here, when I was younger and doing more powerlifting and running combined throughout the year and going into the season I felt as if I were exhausted, I didn’t realize this until the following season when I had stopped powerlifting all together and did more calisthenics focused things but when it came to the season I didn’t work out at all, I would keep up mildly with BASIC calisthenics and that season and every one since then I’ve found I had way more energy, especially the seasons I hunted more aggressive I really tone down the running and working out during the season. But off season during summer it gets ramped up again.

Not so much beer this Wednesday but hockey got me. Again. Shucks, darn the luck. Didn't do poop for working out / health but I got a real cute girls number outta the deal. I love hockey! ( yes there is a turd eatin' grin on my face lol)

Happy with a little faster today. Curious how long I can keep beating my time. Just nice and steady today, happy with my heart rate like that but if that's no good someone speak up.

I might run again later or tomorrow but I still don't get y'all that like this 17 miles per day thing. Crazies. Lol

Edit: pretty sure I'm starting to like this be healthier thing lol

Only 8'58" today. I went way to hard to start and couldn't keep it up. My avg pace at .5 miles was 6'33" hahaha. Legs felt heavy the whole time but I want to get back to at least every other day running

Did 2.5 easy this AM and then 4.5 just now as a "progression" run. still a lot of room to go re: aerobic fitness but feeling pretty good, progress is progress. Keep it up everyone, if you can't tell by now, me trying to encourage you is actually also self serving/ encouraging me.

Decided to re-connect to Strava since everyone still seems to use it quite a bit and it does make it a bit easier to break down efforts by mile, but haven't bit the bullet for the paid version. @GreginPA or anyone else use it/think it's worth it?

I do pay for Strava. I think I bought it around Black Friday and got a discount. I really don't remember what features I got access to after paying. I think perhaps it is the route building and segment leaderboards? Which I do enjoy using both of those.

Strava does make it easy to tell if you are faster on segments and routes. One word of caution is that even though my watch is recording my workout and sending it to Strava, the times aren't always identical. My understanding is that Strava uses the GPS file and determines its own timing, or something like that.

Anyway - I enjoy Strava. Here is a Strava club I made for saddle hunters. You are all welcome to join it. There are other people from this forum on it, but nobody is actively adding strava work outs other than me.

Even if you don't want to join the club - friend me on Strava via the club link. like you said this thread is motivating, Strava is too

Walked 4.25 miles tonight. Gym tomorrow. I'm ditching this guys nutrition. I can't eat that much and I've gained 7 pounds since last Tues!!
I felt that way initially when starting that reverse diet method , tracking macros & pounding calories. You just need someone to be willing to adjust accordingly. Especially if you’re really tracking & staying on top of things. I finally settled in about 20 percent lower on calories & protein than my trainer had me initially. But it took a month or so to realize what was the sweet spot. Hang in there, make sure you have a solid approach & good mix of bro science & real experience…..lol

so, what is the point of "eat like Eddie Hall " I don't want to look like him, although he's got a great barber, lol.

Also confused why I'm supposed to eat potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice, pasta and oats for carbs and not high carb veggie- say like Brussel sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli. He specifically mentioned my veggies have more fiber so they act differently in the body. From what I can gather that's true, and it's the whole reason I should want the fiber with my carbs

I get ya, here’s a shot of where I’m at currently. If I go over slightly on calories or fats I’m fine with that just making sure to hit protein goal every day & I try not to exceed carbs. It’s difficult to perfectly hit each of those targets consistently. This is by no means a perfect method but I’m down over 20lbs & more solid than when I started back up 2 months ago. I’m done with 75Hard this Friday & will keep a handful of things in place but will drop off some of the busy work. IMG_0270.png

I don’t know your specific situation but I wouldn’t be too quick to ditch your trainers advice. You need to have a calorie surplus to build muscle and muscle is metabolism. Sometimes you’ve got to gain a little to lose a lot.

He's got me *trying* to get to at least 3500 calories a day. I feel like garbage forcing that much food down and I think the best I've done is 26-2800 in a day and all I want to do is lay on the couch and nap like it's Thanksgiving.
