I would like to fish some new lakes in and around Missouri. Last year I fished a new MO lake and ice fished in Wisconsin. I’d like to try Grenada Lake in Mississippi. I wouldn’t be apposed to trying some smaller bodies of water in my canoe. At this stage in my life non resident fishing licenses are way more doable than hunting licenses.

I had a friend that fished Grenada last year. He said it was amazing. It’s only about six hours from where I’m at so it’s a very doable trip.

I’m heading to Mississippi in June for a few days and would like to fish while I’m there. I’ll be in Ocean Springs and think I’ll fish from one of the piers. Any suggestions from the Mississippi guys on here?

OK
I'm planning to try a bowhunt out in western Oklahoma on public land. I'm researching a few different areas but haven't settled on anything yet. It won't cost me anything but fuel and a place to stay so it should be a relatively inexpensive trip. I even get an extra five days of vacation after hitting my 20-year anniversary at work in May.

I'm planning to target whitetails, but two of the areas I'm considering have limited populations of muleys, which is kind of an added attraction.

We just did a podcast with John Harrison about wade fishing for crappie at Grenada. Definitely something I'd like to try with a tenkara rod

I would suggest something a little more substantial based on the stringers of crappie some friends used to catch down there wading. Wrangling 2.5-4 pound crappie out of the brush isnt, imo, ultralight fishin.

Nice one. Not saying it wont work and it might work just fine. Just saying I would take a stouter back up justin case.
A tenkara rod definitely wouldn't be the most efficient tool for the job. But it'd be an easy and fun way to net a fish and say you've fly fished Mississippi. It wouldn't be novel enough to warrant the drive for me without a gimmick. I can literally catch crappie in my backyard.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say you cant catch grenada crappie in your backyard. It will be fun to try using the tenkara for sure. Might want to throw some 8# flouro on there though. Only fished down there a couple times, one good trip one really poor. The good trip we caught a pile of 2# crappie but never found any big ones.

I don’t know how Tenkara rod weights work but I’ve used a 9ft 5wt fly rod as my jigging rod for the last year or so. I took the fly reel off and put a one three inline ice fishing reel on it. I’ve landed some three to four pound channel cats and one freshwater drum that went about five pounds. I’m always shocked by how much weight it will handle.

My passion is archery elk hunting. So, right after September I start planning the next year’s hunts. Later this month I will put in for Arizona. Then in the next following months I’ll get my apps in for Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Montana and Kentucky elk. I’m just buying a Wyoming point this year in hopes the heard rebounds from the winter kill last year. I will also put in for Kansas deer again. Good luck to you all in your draws!
Buying a point again this year for Arizona. Will have enough next year hopefully to start actually seeing g if I could get lucky on a draw.

You too sir. I’m not sure if the Moose or the Elk is going to pan out. I put down a deposit for the Elk hunt, but I’ve still got to draw in a high odds area.
