2TC/One Stick Hybrid Climbing

Are you using the stick between the tethers after the first move?
That flow will be how I set the stick each time so yes

I have also been experimenting with a singular tether that is longer that you leap frog but I’m not sure if I’ll try and incorporate that here or not.

No you’re already attached above your one stick before you step onto the aider. Remember you have two tethers.
While standing on the one tether (you’re also attached to) attach the one stick, attach and clip into your second tether, then step on the aider, detach your first tether and proceed.
Aider? You hadn’t mentioned an aider lol, just “step on your one stick”. I was thinking it was 2TC and ’a’ stick, not a full one stick setup with aider. That’s helps quite a bit and I can now kind of see what you are doing, just trying to picture the tether swaps and how you are keeping the slack out of your system. I already get 20-21ft with a ground set + 2 moves so I’m not sure all the swapping is worth it, but I like to keep an open mind. Often things seem overly complicated when described in words, but are actually simple when viewed first hand (like one sticking) Can’t wait to see it!

I’d like to know how you are getting 20ft currently with a one stick in 3 moves. Thanks.

Always one sticking with an aider. And I never said I would have no slack in my system at any time. 2TC has slack between every move and it’s an amount I’m comfortable with. I’m just going to show y’all what I’m doing and leave it at that. I’m not trying to convince anyone to climb this way, it’s all for fun.

He is just dragging us along no video is coming.

Don’t put your stick under the tether, put it about an inch or two below your girth hitch and you will get good height out of that third aider step every move. I get a touch over 7 ft on the ground set. I’m 6’ so after I’m standing on my stick my tether gets set at 7ft above the platform, I put my stick right at the tether on each move so I’m getting almost 7ft per move. I generally end up around 20, plus or minus a foot. With a platform like the UP you lose quite a bit of height on each move when you put your platform under the tether and it’s an ab workout. No strain to put the stick up by your tether, but you do have to run your stick rope under your tether to put it in the cam cleat. That’s a little bit of a pain at first, but you get the hang of it pretty quick. You also need a fairly long pull on your stick because it’s a bit of reach down to the stick.

I’m not trying to rain on your method man, I’m just trying to understand it. And I agree, always have a little slack here and there that I try really hard to keep to a minimum. Like I said above, I’m not judging because I understand how difficult it can be to describe something like this while working in every nuance. Again, I’m really looking forward to seeing it.

I one stick the exact same way you are describing! When I place my stick against my girth hitch I just swing off to the side of the stick to undo and repeat. To me getting my foot in my aider is much easier from the side than straight on!

Fair enough, that’s about where I am at too with three moves as well. I also use a 3 step aider but I don’t often see other people using a 3 step aider.

No rain felt at all. I just wanted to be clear this is for fun and I’m not shooting for the most practical, the most efficient, or the most safe. I’ll manage the slack as I feel comfortable, I’ll be using carabiners to girth hitch to the tree, and I’ll not be recommending anyone else do the same. Thanks for your input.

So this is the same thing as you’re already doing with the addition of standing on your tether to get the stick 2-3 ft higher. You’re basically inserting 1 2TC move into it. It’s probably not worth the extra effort but nonetheless it is the purpose of this thread lol

So 2x 2TC moves and 2x stick moves for 20ft. Now is everyone disappointed?
