Alternative ways to attach a stepp ladder

That's not a bad idea. I've been transporting mine all bundled up. Only risk of keeping them separate is you could forget a rope and not realize it until at the tree.

That's similar to how I was planning on keeping mine. I sewed three loops to the bottom of the sitdrag JUST big enough to fit a gear tie through.

The more you use them the better at getting them set the first time you will get

Are you using the new aider? I ordered a set of eight with aider. Should be here tomorrow. Really should have been here last week but ups made a few mistakes. Package has been scanned 18 times in the last 10 days according to the tracking.

I was using the one Bigasports has. I think it's a game changer for stepp users. 6 steps no equal 12 it really is pretty cool.i wish he would hurry up with his saddle.

I'm thinking of replacing the Stepp rope with a piece of spliced Amsteel. Not spliced directly to the Stepp though. Just a looped end. That way, I can transport my 3 stepps with no rope on them and simply fish the tail end of the Amsteel through the eye around the same bar the original rope was spliced to. Once on, it should act just like the original rope did.

I only use them for a platform as well. Though, I am thinking of using a couple for setting cameras in the off season.

I put a piece of amsteel on to try out. I don't think it works as nice as his rope. The nice thing about his rope is that because it is hollow and stiff it makes it easy to adjust the knot when you need to or when you need to break them down. Amsteel is thinner and more supple so once I tied the knot and cammed them over, they were on there tight. It was much harder to get the knot out. I just wish that the rope it cam on wasn't so big and bulky.

I had a set of them and the legs on them bent I guess when I was pushing off of them to go around the tree. I didn't know it until I tried to stack them back up. They replaced three of them and I sold them. I have a set of 12 cat paws I haven't used in years.

In my limited experience, I dont mind the original rope that comes with the Stepps for the same reasons Red described.

But - I only own a pair of them to use as a platform. If I had 10 or so, I could see why rope bulk management could be an issue for a mobile set.
For presets, this is a great system.

I haven't abandoned them, but I'm still practicing with them. I have other options and I'm allowed to use screw ins in most places so I haven't had to use them for a platform yet, but I do think they would work well.

I agree completely, too bulky for an accent, but just right for a platform

I bought one with some ameristeps from romadrome for a platform, and although I haven't used hunting yet, I like the rope on it. I have had to fiddle with it sometimes, but sometimes I set it perfectly the first time. I'm sure it gets better with practice. It is solid as a rock when cammed over properly!

I just use the cheap ameristep step ups. They are normally 1.99 and I wait til I can get them on sale for 1.57, that is the best I can do. I have hundreds of these things in the woods so I need to be cost effective. All around cranford makes the best screw in steps but they are much more expensive.

bump... great info... i am currently thinking of making the switch to these stepps.. i have used lonewolf sticks for years but want something that packs smaller to fit in my pack with out having to stack and configure a way to carry all of those sticks.... also looking for a super small ultralight climbing system thats still comfortable to climb
