I'm waiting on my over center to come in the mail now, but I went out with them on a cam strap just to practice. Well its probably me but I find 5 on a strap a little cumbersome and loud. I've been considering Wild edge stepps for a platform and this might push be that direction. Any have advice on either quieting them or just making them less cumbersome?

This post got me thinking...we might have to give some advice to people on other teams in the contest that make things louder and more cumbersome! haha only give advice to winners!

Let's get some more info. How are you getting up the tree? What type of saddle/sling are you hunting with?

Stepps are nice because they are comfortable. They are not quiet or less cumbersome

Set up your Ameristeps every day. You get used to it. Does your cam strap have a hook?

Kestrel, with Hss rope for tether. Using Muddy pro sticks with 1 step aiders. Was planning on using the top step and Ameristep for my foot base until I get tree brackets to turn my lone wolf seat into a platform. Consider trading 2 ameristeps for 2 Jim steps and using those for my main platform.

4 Ameristeps on a Strapworks hook strap with an overbuilt Erikson over center buckle weighs 24oz and fits in a dump pouch and gives you 360 degree access. Hooks on the tree in less than in a minute in bad circumstances.

The only reasons to NOT use Ameristeps: You have the bad recalled versions, You can't find any, or you just want a larger area for your feet.

only tip I can think of is to carry them with the strap fed through whatever buckle you are using. Create a tight loop where the steps cant move/bounce against eachother. Then id wrap the tag end around my sticks tying them up.

going up the tree, id feed the tag end through a molle loop on my back side, up to the steps and hitch it a couple times

If you are using a ratchet strap, either switch to a boat buckle or just ratchet one slow click at a time when putting it on the tree

yeah grab tag end of your strap, feed into your buckle and pull out the slack. Its bulky for a pack but if you are strapping it outside it keeps them from clapping against eachother

Like other guy said, just use em. Youll learn

Its probably more confusing trying to figure out what other guys are doing, instead of just going through the learning process of figuring out your way

Ok this thread got confusing quick. I went back to your first post and found your problem. You can not use a cam strap. You will never get it tight enough. If you don't have a OCB, you need to use a ratchet strap for the time being.

Also, what do you mean by cumbersome and loud? Do you mean carrying them and packing or when you are standing on them?

Hence why we all spend too much money searching for something better. We're all bad influences on each other and our wives don't approve of our friends!!
Yup I have learned that this site leads to coveting what I don't need . I have Jims Stepps... don't think they are better than ameristeps which I got this year and like.

My wife approves of my friends a whole lot more than she approves of me.

IMG_2931.JPG Strapworks.com 1" strap with plain end fed through Erikson overcenter buckle. Other end has hook that attaches to the buckle. The steps can't fall off the strap.

You just get the strap slightly in place and the buckle makes it TIGHT.

I've tried several platforms and straps and nothing comes close to this setup with weight/bulk/ease of setup.

Climbpaws on the same strap are more comfortable but are 4 times the size (which is why they are comfortable).

Stepps are 3 times the weight, slow to hang and are Metal. But COMFORTABLE.

A regular platform is of course very comfortable (I have an XOP Handclimber Seat ) but a STRAPPED platform can't be moved around the tree and you're pretty much carrying a Treestand now...that's not why I got into Saddle hunting.

Justsomedude, did that strap come like that or did you have to mod/sew on the hooked end? Please provide the link at Strapworks. Thanks.
