Anyone using 1/4" Amsteel (continuous loop)to make a prussic? I've tried one up and played around pulling on it in the living room, no slippage on the Predator rope I've tried pulling across. Obviously a double fisherman's knot or any other tied knot to make a loop is probably a bad idea with Amsteel but continuous loop shouldn't give any problems. Thoughts?

Worked like a charm. Replaced the prussic on my adjustable bridge and tether. That's a pretty good weight savings for effort and cost involved. Amsteel is the wonder rope, I love it. Wonder how amsteel prussic on amsteel bridge would work, as long as the diameter rule is followed...may be too slick.

They work great. Amsteel is the wonder rope. Splice the continuous loop and you'll be golden.

I know you've used this for accessory stuff, but you haven't used this to hang your life on right?

I commented on this in the other thread @Carolina_trad_hntr started. A sterling hollow block is made for using as a prussik and it is about the same size and weight. I just don't see an advantage to creating an amsteel prussik.

I use an Amsteel bridge for life support. I don't use Prusik knots for life support at all. There very well could be better options for a Prusik knot.

Lol... I know you use an amsteel bridge. In this post he was asking about making an amsteel prussik and using it on a piece of predator rope to hang on.

Ha! I don't see why am amsteel prusik wouldn't work, but there might be better options. I'm not positive on that part.

The issue is the slip.

Slip = Heat
Heat = Failure

There are cases on TreeBuzz of failure. 1/4" can melt through on a good slip.

Bottom line. There are better materials for prussics.

I did in fact trust my life with it, for one evening playing around. It worked well, but given the feedback I received in my other thread for tether diameter, i decided to go with the sterling hollow block as redsquirrel suggested. Not worth the risk, for anyone viewing this thread in the future.

The Sterling Hollow Block is not listed to be used as the only means of support. Are you guys just thinking that in our use it should never see the forces they are talking about?

I read that too, and while I do believe it's fine after going down this prussic rabbit hole, I'm trying 2 different other ropes. The Beal Jammy is a prussic loop I've played with, but I'm primarily using Bluewater Titan. Sterling HB works the best of the 3, it may be what I go with.
