Amsteel - rapell???

Stupid question - but can I use Amsteel to rappel down my tree??? Using like 5/16" Amsteel and a figure 8??

Id guess that people would already be using it for rappelling if it was a good & safe option. Its pretty slick from what I’ve heard & read about. I think climbing rated rope is probably the way to go.

It's really slick which would make it harder to slow down but the real concern I would see is the friction causing the amsteel to get hot and failing as a result.

No, you shouldn't use amsteel to rappel. It was not designed for that.
