Another DIY Saddle- Scuba Webbing & 1000D Cordura

@FUSE what kind of thread are did you use to sew through this kind of webbing abd any input on needle size whould be great. Lol im putting together a after xmas shopping list.

Very impressive i wonder if the singer heavy duty could handle making something like that. @FUSE If you don’t mind me asking what does this weigh? I like what you did now i want to make one to incorporate a few ideas i have.

I use the Singer heavy duty. It will definitely work for this. I'm going to make one. I'll try to video the process.

Yeah because I don’t want to spend a ton on a machine as the one i have won’t work its meant for lite and i mean more for general fabrics. Lol i called singer and they said i need industrial but im not sure if they were just trying to upsale the thing. Im reading mixed reviews everywhere. I guess as long as i go with a heavy duty, a good needle (i assume some may break), and quality thread i should be okay. Do you agree?

I figure at this point i have ideas on what i want in a saddle and don’t have any issues with all my saddles but am evolving and just am searching for something i guess!!

I agree. I don't think you'll have any issue. I'm going to try it when all my material gets here. I know for a fact I can get through 3 layers of seat belt webbing without issue.

That is awesome.I see your useing a RC harness.
Is there a reason?Im still a newbie.

It is most likely for the extra safety. It is similar to those who use one with the sitdrag!!

Alex,

the pics you sent me through facebook messenger didn't do this justice! Or maybe it's because I was viewing it on my phone! I am impressed man!
haha Appreciate it brother!

@MCDM I'm really not sure, i'll try to weight it next time I find a scale.

@Ridgerunner yea I like the RCH for ascent/descent. I don't even notice it while sitting in saddle. I like the insurance at 30ft.

@MCDM i used a combination of MARA50 and T70. A quality sharp needle is a must. I used organ needles size 18. I'm not sure if the singer could handle it. The machine will have the hp to get through the material, the question is whether or not it can apply enough tension to pull the stitch back through the material.

This is good to know. I went with 500d Cordura. I'll see if it will work.

Thats IT!! After the holidays, I am buying a sewing machine. We bought my 10 year old one for Christmas but I could not convince my wife that she NEEDED a heavy duty machine lol.

Did you go with 500D vs 1000 because of the stitches being pulled back through may present a problem?
I think 1000d is overkill. I have a lot of military issued gear that is 500d and it's tough as nails. 1000d is bombproof buy loud and not very comfortable.

The webbing is doing most of the load bearing, so 500d is plenty strong for me.

Most of the companies making big game hunting packs for elk, sheep, etc. use 500d.
