Anyone hang their cameras high in the tree?

I like to hang them at stand level, and pointing toward the trail I hope to shoot. It allows me to hopefully get a pic of the critter I shoot and having the cam actually reachable from the stand allows me to switch cards during a hunt without screwing around on the ground. A high camera also eliminates the chance of leaving odor on the camera for deer to find.

How high is stand height for you? I just set one at 25’ from the tree I hunt for a the same reasons you listed.

I use one stick and a cable lock to combat thievery got a stud on them too

What is that giant thing on his back? looks like some terrible torture device :)

Depends on the situation. The highest I ever go is around 25 ft. Sometimes below 10 ft.
Typical progression (sorry for the turned pics)...

That's really cool. Makes me think of the ones that guys put on the ground looking back at their stand to get the kill shots.

Ive done that, too. But changing the card or batteries sometimes requires walking in a sensitive area. And with most cameras I own, changing cards is tough with gloves on and I hate touching anything at ground level with bare hands...especially around my stand.

Here's a crappy pic of a buck just before I shot it. My stand is just to the right of the pic frame.
In order to access this camera, I has to cross the deer trail and then spend critical time messing with it. I hate being on the ground near my stand...get in, and get out. Too risky fooling with cameras or scent lures near my stands. Had lots of curious deer come to the sounds of my approach to the stand. Placing the cam up in the tree reduces the chances of being busted on the ground.

I think my take on everything that is be said here is.
Scooting put the camera as Hights as one stick will get me. Out of the way but not to hard for me to check it.
First hunt of season move it up to saddle height so that it’s easy to get to and maybe it even take the photo of the shot!!!!

There are a few downsides to hanging high. Cams at ground level often catch animals that weren't the ones to trigger the pic. High cams get just what is right in front of it.
And I'm by no means a camera expert but aren't the detection angles designed to trigger more horizontally rather than a downward angle? (I'm asking, not saying).
Another downside is distance to the subject. Just having the cam elevated increases the distance to the deer.

Even so, I will still hang high in a lot of situations. Cams in areas safe from thieves or spots I'm not hunting will often have lower cams.
My best cam set is my #1 mock scrape. Its strictly a survey set. I don't hunt it and deer are used to my scent there. I pay no attention to occasional odor from cam maintenance or disturbance on that set. But for a hunting situation in thief areas, I will hang high.

Bow hunter 15 has a non screw mount on YouTube that I have been using and works really well.

I made some camera hangers out of these garage hooks.
I took the vinyl off the last 1/2" and ran a dye over the end. I can't remember which threads that cameras have but the diameter of the hook is perfect size for the right dye. I then threaded a wing nut on to act as a lock nut for positioning the camera. Mine are out in trees someplace so I can't show any pics right now but they work fairly well and are cheap, cheap.

Do you have any pictures you could share? I curious to see how the pictures turn out at different heights
I have friends that are hanging them up 8-10 ft. They carry a climbing stick with a multi step aider. Main reason is to deter dirtbags from reading/deleting sd pics, stealing sd cards or stealing cameras.

Pics seem good.

I’m gonna try it myself this yr.

This one is a cheap $35 primos bulletproof...I have 2 browning dark ops and another primos ultra 35 and moultries... goodluck with all of them...wish they all had the python cable alot in front like the primos....can lock it all tight to the tree

I do depending on area. If I think it's possible that someone will find it, I set it as high I can reach off 1 stick. Also use a screw in bracket to attach to tree, instead of the strap. The biggest thing that I recognize in the woods is the strap on the camera before I actually see the camera.

What kind of bracket?

I used this one and have picked up a couple just like it, but different brand. They are cheap and easy to adjust.

I have camouflaged my cameras for a while now as well, but have not hanged them up high, although I have thought about it. But this thread convinced me, I'll do it this year. Good thread.
