Backyard Practice Tree

Ok I may stick with the XOP . Considering Novix also

Any short stick you need 5 or 6 if you don’t plan on using an aider. But I don’t like stretching/stressing myself out when I’m climbing.

LOL. I was thinking of doing this. Now, I'm going to.

Oh, it's already begun. I don't hunt in my yard but I've got a stand set up for practice with the bow and plans on where to put several targets for saddle practice. Also set up a huge round section of a pine I cut down for an ax throwing target. Also have 22 bullet catch I'll incorporate into the fun. Plan is to have friends over on a regular night for ax/knife throwing and bow shooting from set spots for points. $5 buy in and winner takes it with 2nd getting back their anti. New kid delayed things but plans of an adult playland are in the works. My local bow shop has a huge sasquatch target. It's like 5k so I'm not buying it but it has the creative juices flowing on interesting targets. Its gonna be epic. Yeah, I'm a 40 year old child but I have fun so screw it.

I’ve got a practice pole also. It has a security light on it so the local EMC may not approve. I usually only get about 8’ up but practice with close targets to simulate 20 yard shots from 20-30 feet.

Aaaand now I need a Tethrd telephone pole. IT NEVER ENDS! Bet the shipping on that is going to be a booger tho.
If you have a local electric or telephone company they oftentimes have poles that they are discarding that would be fine for other applications. Obviously you would want to make sure it is in good shape and not woodpecker or insect infected.

I should have watched the video before I posted this, he talks about where to get them briefly in the vid.

If I want to climb high I use this pine. 20200724_162859.jpg

These 3 cedars are my "go to" practice trees cause they pretty much always in the shade....20200724_162931.jpg

No damage here.....

This maple is the make it or break it.....if the climbing method I'm trying gives me difficulty in this 1 I scrap it....

I really like to hunt those trees like the maple with the big fat trunk and a good fork. I made 1 daisy chain extension that gets me around anything smaller than 15 feet

That 1s tough 2 climb....crotch is to tall to reach so 7-8ft gets u into the crotch then two multiaxis leaner from there

Who else has a tree in their back yard? Granted mine is a telephone pole...whatevs.

I know some of you OGs have been doing this forever. What's your back yard setup? I want to improve my position.

I'm jealous of your pole......my practice tree is an angry, sappy, abused pine that loves to puke all over my gear.

I live in the woods so I have tons of trees. There is a perfect maple tree 5 feet from my porch. It is 10" diameter, straight as an arrow, and limbless for 40 feet.

I have an oak tree that i put 5/8 machine bolts in a few years ago I put a big homemade lock on on it just before season and leave it The boys use it more than i do but even i practice from my saddle this is where it happens.

These stepps stay on my destroyed practice tree most of the year. I climb up and rappel down so it's easier to retrieve arrows.

My practice tree

How often do you actually climb to practice at height vs ground level saddle shooting?

I'm like most of the people on here. I got plenty of trees but no light pole to climb. I guess we aren't "real saddle hunters". Lol
