bayou palooza 2019

I would be game for next season. Just got done hunting up that way with @denots and have a trip to Alabama scheduled for February. Perhaps we could try for a rut hunt next year that is the very end of December/first few days of Jan. 2020.

Then all lottery and primitive weapon hunts on the Tensas are past. It’s open either sex bow until January 31. Big lake has different regulations. They have a late season primitive weapon but it is Buck only. Buckhorn is the next WMA south and it’s open to bow only either sex until January 31. Cocodrie NWR is south of Buckhorn. I believe it’s regulations are the same as Tensas. The next public land down river is the Richard Yancey WMA. It is bow only either sex until January 31.
I have hunted the northern Mississippi river delta area my whole life so these are the public areas I have some knowledge about. Mostly the Tensas NWR. There are 10’s of thousands of acres of public hunting land that may vary in dates/regulations from these areas. Maybe someone with knowledge of these areas elsewhere in the state will respond to this thread.

The last week of December and first week of January is the Delta Rut! That’s when the big boys make mistakes and the best hunting all year. There were two 180” deer killed just a few miles apart in Madison parish the week of Christmas this season. I saw some pics of other 150 “ class bucks killed on the Tensas in those 2 weeks posted on Facebook and the La Sportsman. Tensas is archery only at for those 2 weeks.

lets do it then if thats good an we have a whole year to get ready an plan

I will be there for campfire therapy and dinner but will be hunting my lease for those weeks. Unless I score my trophy buck in bow season before our bucks get wise to our presence. After that it’s rut, post rut and worst case scenario “admitting they are smarter than you”

Not on public that I'm aware of. Besides those boar hogs would have to have nuts of solid gold before I would hunt them in the summer.
