Best saddle

What is the best saddle option to purchase for a guy getting into this for the first time? Long time climber and hang on hunter, looking to be lighter and more mobile. I’ve got a sit drag and harness to do a DIY set, but I think I’d rather buy one that I know is reliable and safe. I’m 5’10” and 170lbs.Thank you
Maybe check with those living near by you. I'm certain you could meet up with a few saddle hunters and test almost every 2019 or earlier model out there. Then you would know what you like and just buy it.

If you want additional info: as a vendor rep - we cannot post out thoughts opinions in this area - there are field reps from most companies over in the vendor section, maybe come on over there and ask as well?. Most of them are good guys and really want to get folks in the right saddle.

The one that fits you best and wasn’t built in someone’s basement.
All joking aside, I build my saddles in my basement. I had a mantis and I trust my stitching as much or more than the mantis. Based upon Sailrite's stitching strength formula, the seatbelt webbing will break before my stitching should.

I did a lot of research before I made my own saddle though. I also was one of the first 100 buyers of the mantis. I liked it but now I make a saddle that fits my body perfectly.

Prior to the mantis, it was a preachers seat and rock climbing harness (RCH). I liked it but wasn't in love with that. I then did the sit drag with RCH and liked it better. Then I got the mantis and I liked it but it wasn't without its faults. I think the phantom addresses a lot of mantis' weaknesses that I had.
