Self explanatory, what are the best spurs? Lightest most comfortable and quiet....

Just picked up some climb right aluminum. Haven't tested them out yet but not heavy at all

I’ve had and used both, carbon gecko and climbright aluminum. Personally I like the actual spike better on the climbright. Intern I feel a lot more comfortable on them. There’s no denying the geckos were lighter. I’m waiting on my kiwis and I hope there the best of both worlds! March can’t come soon enough!
 
I only have 1 season on spikes but I think best is going to be up to the user, I know someone who does tree service and hunts and only uses steel buckinghams..
I have used steel Buckingham's with pole climbing spike, aluminum climb rites with tree spike, and sport climbers..
Sport climbers spur design is dangerous imo, the buckinghams spike definitely bites the best into the tree and there was not much of a learning curve but the climb rite with aluminum pads are the most comfortable.. I'm going to put a pole spike on my climb rites this year that may make them better than the bucks for me but right now the bucks and the climbrites are tied.. I like them both alot and the weight difference is just under a pound difference.

It is hard to beat the Buckinghams and it sure makes a statement that they have been around for so long and are still very popular with guys that climb for a living!! I love mine, they feel like an extension of my feet and have since I first put them on!
 
I have steel buckingham with pole Spurs. I like mine a lot. I'm getting another set with tree Spurs to try. I can't believe how fast you can get up the tree!
 
Buckinghams and Bashlin are time tested and are the choice of most professionals.The Bashlins have the most forgiving gaff angle on the market and are my personal choice for what its worth.
 
Not to hijack your post but I’ve been trying to find some posts or videos on modifying spur straps. Know of any?

I was looking at the Kiwi-Klimbers - anyone have any advice about whether to get the long or short spurs?
 
I feel like it’s a preference. I know a lot of tree trimming guys that like the short spurs and other say they won’t climb without the long ones. I feel like you have more control with the short ones just because your body is closer to the tree. I’ve climbed with both and never had issues.

I've climbed for 25 years in steel klieins, which weigh-in at around 5lbs per set. You can pick up a pair of those for under ~$150 ...maybe less, whereas the Geckos are 3x higher (if it's a new proposition, I'd look for used online, regardless of brand).

I do have these on my my 'upgrade to lighter version list' but behind a few other things sine the Kleins have worked for the past 30 years (different sets of course) and I'd only be looking at ~2lbs savings ...did I just say "ONLY". Maybe I should bump them up the list. Heck that's almost 50%!!

I am in the process of doing the strap mod w/1" polypro and Tethrd T-hooks. That will drop the weight a bit over the leather straps/metal buckles.

Oh and regarding spur length, I 'upgraded (last season at the urging of others) to longer "tree spikes" and am now going back to shorter "pole spikes". I'm one who hates the longer spikes and feel less in control and the pole spikes have worked for 25 years.
