Carabiner at top of tether rope

I have a couple linesman belt rope. Basically the same as the rope style tree strap just with the smaller Loop in it. Would there be any issue with using a carabiner at the top and using one of these ropes as a tree strap rather than just a lineman's belt?

Are you saying tying a knot then clipping a carabiner to that knot then girth hitching tree through carabiner?

No it has a small spliced eye already. I meant just clipping it through that and wrapping it around the tree and clipping it around the Rope just like you would a normal tether putting it back through the large eye

You may already know this. But, you need to check the rating of the lineman's rope; to make sure it will hold your weight.
And I believe you need a static (no stretch) rope.
IMO, there shouldn't be any "issue" if the rope is rated appropriately. BTW, I use a 10mm climbing rope as a tether.

I've used a carabiner like that before, although I think its better to not use a biner that way, side loading and the tether moving down the tree are the biggest issues. Also typically when referring to climbing rope you are talking about dynamic rope at least that's been my experience.

However you could do this. Water know a small loop of tubular webbing or a sewn runner then clip tether to it . IMG_20181021_173323185.jpgIMG_20181021_173323185.jpg

Get a hss tether or tethrd and use as prescribed, either way money well spent. Dont over think it, very safe.

You could put a mid line loop in and pass your small spliced eye and carabiner through it. Figure 8 on a bight , bowline on a bight, and my favorite mid line knot for rigging ,because it unties easily after being loaded , the butterfly knot. Use this idea on the small eye end using an end line loop, figure 8 on a bight, bowline with a Yosemite tie off. I agree with donnieballgame that a carabiner as a girth hitch even though it's easy to clip in is sloppy and prone to slippage, I wouldn't want my life depending on that configuration at any height. I see new member but that doesn't tell me what kind of climbing experience you have. I don't know how old you are, or how much life experience you have. I get nervous giving this kind of advice on a forum. But you know know all that stuff. I get trying to repurpose stuff to save money, or trying to make things easier, or lighter. But if you don't have the experience this is no place to **** around. Like Scoutman said, buy the right gear and use it the right way, and live to hunt another day. I said it more poetically, but you get the jist. I hope it sheds some positive light
