I noticed when i put weight in my tether that my gate won't open on my carabiner. when i take my weight off the tether, the gate opens. This makes me feel like there is slight flex happening in my carabiner. i could be wrong, but now it's in the back of my mind. So, i'm ready to upgrade. I don't want to say i'm on a budget, because my life isn't worth a few bucks, but i also don't need the most expensive either. what are some of the most generally accepted and most used carabiners out there? thanks for any help.

Good carabiner IMO, it's rounded so if you're using a ropeman it doesn't just lay over flat to the side when everything is hooked up. Under load I haven't had any issues screwing and unscrewing the gate.

Let me suggest the Grivel double swing gate carabiner. I have 3. The Sigma is a larger D-shaped general-purpose biner. It weighs 54g and is rated at 30/11/9kN.

You should never open a carabiner gate while it's under load. https://saddlehunter.com/community/index.php?threads/examples-of-dangerous-carabiner-loading.2599/

I prefer the Rock Lock. Due to its size, I am able to operate it with cold, stiff fingers or gloved hands. I use Rock Locks with Ropeman 1's on both my tether and linemans rope.
