Climbing methods questions

I used to climb down sticks with long aiders and my linesman belt vs rappelling current and if I had been in a tree when all that happened I can 100% guarantee I would have had real problems with getting down safe with those long aiders...I understand that a fine tuned 2tc isn't a long aiders but the premise is the same...much more coordination needed to climb down vs tie a knot.

I'm in good health but I just got real sick outta the blue like food poisoning or something. I had a good dinner the night prior and I ate some of those cereal bars and little coffee on the drive to the place that morning..nothing out of the ordinary. It was weird and little scary. It took me almost 3 hrs to walk what would normally be 30minutes getting back to my truck.

I'm not attacking 2tc....I'm disagree with tailgunner that rappel rope is dead weight
Yeah, I did not take it as an attack on 2TC at all and having a rappel option is definitely a plus. I may revisit it over the summer. It was just that quick link I hated dealing with. I need to take the quick link off and just try the rappel line with a simple loop like the top tether has. Maybe also cut the rope down from 40 feet to 35 or even 30 might help too.

Have you had any more episodes since getting sick after eating the cereal bars? I had a similar experience scouting. I ate a granola bar and about 15 minutes later I had cold sweats and vomiting. I think it was peanut toxin in those bars. I shrugged it off the first time, then a week or so later I ate another one of those bars and the same thing happened but worse.

No....no other episodes or anything remotely similar. I hardly ever get sick

If you lose consiousness rappeling it could be worse than 2tc.same with sticks and steps.homie.i dont come down till im about to piss myself.so im as fast as rappeling.kind of just sliding down with a little bit of drag....franticly

Week argument...Im willing to race any one up a tree from bow in hand on the ground arrow knocked.up a tree hang bow ,to bow in hand on the ground arrow knocked without going fast, sweating or breathing hard.im not boasting.it realy is just that easy when you get the hang of it

Another benefit of having a rappel rope is being able to quickly get down and back up. Drop something. Bathroom break, whatever. SRT on a prusik isn't ideal but it cheap and workable.

As far as rappelling bulk, if you only climb 20ish, only bring 25-28 feet of rope. I'm not sure why 40 is the norm. Definitely better too much than not enough but just saying I don't think many of v is need 40 feet. My closest encounter so far I was like 4 feet off the ground...

If I lose consciousness on rappel, I am going to hang where ever I am on the descent. Same as would happen with 2TC. Why would you climb down to pee?

If you have a concern about slack in your tether, you might consider adding a Yates Screamer or similar device that will limit shock from a sudden stop on a static line. I called Yates and spoke to the owner. He said that the screamer would deploy and lessen the shock from a fall to a degree that is considered safe. I believe he said a fall of as with as three feet would activate the device. He also said that he has sold numerous screamers to other bowhunters. While it is better not to fall, hopefully this will provide a margin of safety. I use one between my bridge and rope attachment. It adds a couple of inches but weighs next to nothing. I also agree that no matter what method of climbing you use, that using a rappel rope as your top tether is the best way to get back down to ground safely and quickly. 30'-40' of Oplux or similar rope weighs about 1 pound. The older I get the more concerned I am with being as safe as possible. When I was young it hardly entered my mind. My mind keeps telling me I am 25 years old but my body keeps reminding me that I am almost 67.

Its always heat stroke a hangover or lack of drugs in roofing.im on exspearamentle stuff though.perfectly healthy.could meet jesus any minute.win win.

This dépends on your style of gear and posision its in during the incident.rappeling accidents still happen.i learned on a carabiner befor most mechanicals where developed.and still should be backed up by à prusic.by the time i have to piss there are no mature blacktail bucks walking around.especialy if im climbing up and down trees repeatedly just to play bungie with my neat camando gear.

I have nothing against 2TC….or any other method for that matter. When I picked one sticking it wasn’t really mainstream yet, but 2TC was even further out on the fringe. I really like the sound of 2TC and Scott Adkins made it look SO EASY! But the deeper I dug and from everything I read at the time, it seemed like it was actually the most difficult to learn. I didn’t have a lot of time to pick a method and everything was going to be new for me, saddle, ropes, climbing, etc,. so it was a lot. From watching videos, I KNEW I could one stick for sure, I wasn’t as confident about 2TC so I picked one stick.

Weight wise, not a ton of difference between the two. Both use two “tethers” and both need a platform or a ring of steps. Extra stuff I’m carrying over 2TC is a 15” inch tube, one standoff, one double step, 30‘ of rope, Dynaglide, Madrock and Biner. Weighed that stuff on a scale = 2lbs 6oz. So not exactly a deal breaker and I have the ability to rappel down. I’m going to work on 2TC this summer, but at the time, being new to the whole game, one stick just made more sense for me at that juncture.

Thanks to all you gentlemen for the info!
