Climbing sticks

You're 5'6". How heavy are you?

I ran full length Hawk Helium sticks for a few years and recently switched to XOP double minis. If you're just getting started, it's hard to beat the Hawk (or even XOP) price. They are heavier than the other options but the Hawks pack pretty well. There are Facebook posts about Hawk sticks bending but I've never experienced it (5'5", 130lbs) and they probably sell an order of magnitude more sticks than other manufacturers; their failures might not be any higher proportionally than what other manufacturers see (just guessing, no data to back that up).

Either way, I wouldn't spend Beast or EWO money on my first sticks. Go cheap. You might hate them.
I’m 185 pounds so I’m fat if your 5’5” and 130 pounds I need to walk more lol

Out of curiosity, are the Trophyline and different than the Novix?

I agree with MNFarmHunter. If you are just starting out their nothing wrong with a set of Hawk mini. You can pick up some for about $100 for a set of 4. Play around with them for a season or two until you know what you really want do, I'm using 3 modded Hawks with a a knaider and swaider and getting up 22 feet to my platform.

They're now $220.00 on the hawk website. They have doubled in price, unbelievable!

I wouldn't buy them off the hawk web site. I'm pretty sure you can get them a lot cheaper then that off the internet , might have to do a little searching. I can't remember where I picked my up from now, but I got them for $99 2 years back. Hell, at $220 you might as well buy some Skellators.

Yeah, I bought last year at $99.00. Was just taken aback that they had doubled in price; I guess just like everything these days.

Another vote for beast mini's here. I picked some up and have been impressed. They lock to the tree great, their tolerances are second to none, the double steps are solid (attached with 2 bolts), they inline stack great and they are American made.

Did you get 20" sticks?
I am going through the pick a stick syndrome. Used cut down LW sicks for two years. Just ordered some Shikar and LWCG single step with cable aiders.
Welcome to the rabbit hole.

I bought a set of EWO ultralights after returning my Tethrd Ones. They’re a great lightweight but very solid option. With a 3-step aider on the bottom stick I’m at ~16’ on my platform. I ordered another 3-step aider today for my second stick. The EWO standoffs make climbing with aiders much easier.

Standoff distance from the tree makes a huge difference as it relates to aiders. EWO from what I have used is the best. But they do come with a bigger price.
