Good morning. A lot of smart folks on here so I wanted to see if you all could offer any suggestions or areas of improvement.

Platform: lwcg ambush
Ascending method: EWO 15 inch with double step aider
Descending method: see above
Saddle: tethrd phantom

I know many will ask why not rappelling. I have found that the time and effort it takes to set it up I can get down is just as fast and easy via one stick. 5 moves up, five or six moves down, really easy for me. I am tired of pulling the rope down out of the tree and making the extra noise. Just my preference.

My stick lashes to the platform solid with no noise while walking via a large niteize gear tie. The grooves in the standoff mate nicely with the platform. Nothing gouges into my back.

You will see an old LW pad attached to the platform via paracord. These meet in the middle and I affix it to the tree via a small screw in bow hangar. Works great and no need for knee pads.

The fanny pack straps around the tree once I am up and it includes a bottle of water, pull up rope, kill kit, rangefinder, extra bow hangers, and headlamp.

Any advice or suggestions for streamlining would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I also wanted to love rappelling too. I’m a firefighter so I’m not new to rappelling and feel comfortable doing it. I played with all of my rappelling stuff today and compared it to one sticking down and found out that I’m just as fast one sticking down. If you consider getting the rope down and packing it up. Plus I don’t have to carry the extra rope. I also wanted to like a platform but I’m a ROS guy and find it to be more comfortable and versatile than a platform. Your setup looks good to me . I don’t know how you can be more any more stream lined.

Ditch the stick. Climb with the platform.

Looks good but definitely have a backup way of getting down. I carry one screw in step. Not legal to use on public but in an emergency I wouldn’t think twice about it.

Also agree with rappelling. I rarely go above 16-18’ and it took me longer to set up my ATC, autoblock, carabiners, etc than just make 4-5 moves to get down. Way less rope too. It was fun, but too much extra bulk and noise making paraphernalia.

Emrah
