Dedicated platform vs on-stick platform

Another hybrid method is one stick and platform. The bulk is minimal and weight of the stick is significantly lower without a mounted platform. Will bring you to about 6 lbs.
I will sometimes use a Tethrd one stick to "one stick" combined with a predator. I think that's around 4.5 total.

I take a different stick or platform/ROS or stick with a platform, depending on the hunt/area etc. plus then I get to collect more gear lol

Spoiler 1: if yWouou have an issue rappeling with a figure 8 and don’t have a backup you don’t get a second chance to ask questionssWw
Please elaborate. A friend is testing the figure-8 method and I've watched a few videos. Seems pretty straight forward if tied in correctly and used as specified. Have you personally had an issue? What manner of descender would your recommend as an alternate?

Oh no, it’s a good method and when I started rappelling I used an 8, then a guide 8(Pirana). Main thing about it is if you let go for any reason you drop fast, so back it up with a hitch above(I didn’t for a while)
I came full circle and am currently I’m using an ATC… basically same method as PrivilegedBowhunter. He’s got a video on his YouTube channel. Not a lot of difference from an 8, but you can use it the whole climb/hunt/rappel, and I sometimes do, but usually keep it all hooked up in my pouch and use a Ropeman until I’m ready to descend.

I have a whole lot of decoding in your post to do.....all the acronyms in saddle hunting is challenging to keep up with for somene new. Thanks for taking the time to post more info and a photo.

Happy to clarify any of it. Basically my method now isn’t that different, an ATC is another common descender used in rock climbing. I just have a hitch above, and a autoblock below so I can go hands free on the way down (to grab my stick, for example), and it also allows for more speed control when descending. Biggest thing is I need to make more than one mistake to take the elevator down.

I’ve tried it both ways. For me personally I’ve preferred a platform mounted stick. I pair it with a ring of steps. I run a diy hawk one stick with their stick platform.

what type of strap setup are you using and how do you find side stability? I’ve got long helium’s now and a separate predator xl platform. The predator is great for size and stability but it’s another thing to carry. The hawk step is small and I wonder about stability but have thought about trying it for $50 or so. I don’t run an ROS though.

I've looked at the Pursuit V2 on their website. Have you tried it alone like you did the EDP? I like my EDP, other than weight-wise is a bit heavy. What are your impressions of the Pursuit?.

I just got the Pursuit last week and haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I don't plan to use it as a stand-alone platform, just as a light weight additional platform for moving around the tree. The U.P. on top of my stick is very comfortable to lean/sit with but a bit harder to move around the tree easily without an additional step on the side.

For my purpose I wanted the original Pursuit because it is lighter weight and I won't be using it as the main platform. The V2 is supposed to be stronger but it weighs a half pound more. I'm only 170 pounds so I'm not worried about it.

So the difference between the Pursuit Gen 1 and V2 is both size and more heavy duty design.....which obviously adds weight? Please supply feedback when you get some time with the Pursuit. I've been to their website a few times.

I'll try to remember to give an update when I've used it a bit.

I don't think the overall size is different between the original and the V2. I think they added some thickness to the edges and added a center rib to strengthen it.

I have found that I like using my one stick and a separate Platform or ROS….. no platform on my stick.

I have a 15” EWO one stick with just normal top/bottom EWO lightweight steps( no platform), a 3 step aider and 3/16 Amsteel rope.
Weighs 2.30 lbs.

This gives me the option of using ROS or a seperate Platform. I also find it a little easier to climb with a regular stick versus a platform on the stick. Seems the platform on top of the stick makes the stick a little top heavy While handling up the tree….. not a big deal but it is my stick is easier to handle. I also use the one stick to the left of my platform at hunting height to help maneuver around the tree for shots.

Most Platform One sticks weigh +/- 6lbs. (I have tried most of them)

My one stick with a LWCG FIX platform weighs 6.30 lbs………. One stick with ROS is roughly 3.8lbs….. one stick with predator platform is 5.60 lbs. I have options with no platform on my one stick.

Tethrd one stick w/ 3 step aider + RZR platform is < 3.5lb
(On paper… I don’t have the one stick)

I tried the Tethrd One Stick as I have a 4 pack……. I didn’t like the lack of foot room from the tree it created on my aider while one stick climbing. I wanted it to work.

I haven’t tried the RZR platform but they look like they flex a lot.

I’m not a big guy, but my experience with the magnum and regular RZR is they’re both rock solid.

Nothing to pull yourself up with on a tethrd one stick…especially after the second move. I like having that UP platform on the EWO stick to pull with. I did 2 daylight till dark sits on the EWO one stick. No need for an additional platform imo.

I use an rda crowsnest on top of an xop x2 for a one stick and it only weighs 3.6 lbs. I use it with a seeker mini that's about 3 lbs as well.
I like having the crowsnest on the top for more real estate to stand on to move my tether and move around the tree for potential shot opportunities.

I just grab onto the stick itself to pull myself up. I haven’t gone dark to dark but I’ve done a dark til after 2, and another 10-4:30 just standing on my Hawk stick this season… both times had my RZR on the saddle or strapped to my pack but didn’t feel like it was necessary to set it(had a narrow shooting lane, and didn’t expect to stay long). Didn’t find it uncomfortable personally, but that’s why there are a thousand ways people do this. I don’t like the weight on my stick, but am drawn to the idea of having a small platform on stick as a second position.

Thats kind of how I use my one stick platform. The deer I shot this year I was standing on the crowsnest. Tried the stick with a top step for practice and was wanted more under my foot for the shot around the tree.
If you want a bigger step but less weight you could try the rda lookout. 2" top step without the angle of the crowsnest

How deep are the standoffs on most 1-sticks? The tethed ONE stick says its 3.25" deep...are dedicated 1-sticks with platforms deeper?

This is my one stick with a ewo stand offs and a crows nest.
