How many of you go almost all summer without hunting pals speaking to ya but a month before season opens, they are your best friends?
During the season, you get others that call to see what the deer are doing because those are the ones that know your on top of things but yet talk and make fun about you and your hunting style behind your back but wants advise to kill a deer.
I think I'm just going solo for now on.

I have a small lease that I got just for the kids but they only make a few hunts a year. So last year I started hunting it and invited a few friends and family here and there. During the season they got all kinds of ideas of making roads and trails and camp better. Never see a one after the season closes. Heading out again tomorrow to do some work all alone. I always let them know that I'm going out but they think I'm crazy. They say we can knock that stuff out one weekend in Sept. I've even been told it's beach season, leave the deer alone. It's pitiful. A helping hand makes things so much easier. Hard to find a good hunting buddy that's like minded. I had a few back home when I lived in La but all we get together for is maybe few days get together hunt. I need an all season buddy. And one that isn't scared of their wife.
Man you hit a nerve with this thread. It's been building up since the season ended. It really needs to hurry up and get here.

They can barely get permission to hunt, I don't expect them to use brownie points to work.

I don't see anything wrong with having hunting buddies like that. Unless they're just mooching off of you for a place to hunt.

Had a couple like that. My old boss was like that. I just found a new place to hunt and the owner doesn't allow me to bring anyone else.

Me too, you met one, Mitch. Him and another friend, Dewayne, have been friends for 33 years. And I have one more friend, Jimmy. These guys are true friends.

    X2 LOL!!

I have two guys which i have been mentoring which went from complete strangers to pretty good friends. They did not grow up in a hunting household to say but were up for the challenge to hit the woods. Since then the have proved themselves. From day one I told them im not going to put you in front of a deer you will have to figure it out for yourselves. I taught them how to read the deer sign and how to optimally within my best ability to find good spots paying attention to what to look for and how to set it up in their favor. I didn't claim to know all the answers but told them that i have some knowledge if you want to listen. Since then we have all become close sharing info that goes on throughout the season. They have helped with dragging and all the preseason/post season preps. I feel they have excelled my abilities and which has allowed me to give it right back to them.

And on the flipside I have seen many come and go. Those who want to take the short cuts I have no time for. For the die hards its blood, sweat, and tears. Time away from family included. Those are the people I surround myself around and most of you guys I have never met in the flesh but feel we are a family and for know thats all I need to know.
