Diy aider with stirrups

That's exactly what I'm considering but I'm torn between the offset and the inline. I also don't know how to do the inline style.

I was thinking for an offset though having a VErY long frost knot for the top step and pull the two 'step' loops out to have a place to stand at the too

Aiders that I use don't seem to twist as much as the one's that loop around tubing on the stick. I tried the looping the end of the aider around the tubing and I had problems with it that way.

I want to know how you made this. Looks nice. Like the way it holds the steps open and keeps them from twisting.

I make the aider from one piece of webbing and inserted the tubing into the webbing to make the steps. I had to sew in the two ends on the top step and where the two ends come together.

How long is the webbing to start with

I made a couple of aiders like ramjet's the other night. These seem to work very nice. I did not have tubular webbing so I just folded the strap over and sewed the section in the step. This just gives it a bit of structure with no added weight. With the aiders being attached to both sides on the steps of my helium sticks it works really well. Much easier to get my foot in then the ones I made that attach around the center of the stick as these are held open and stay facing correctly. Like this I can get almost 7' to the top of my first step. Think I will try the mod some of you guys have been doing and making my Helium stick a 2 step stick and go with a 3 step aiders and I should get the same height but with less weight. Thanks ramjet for the tip!

That is exactly how I'm using an aider with my helium steps, except only one step. Be careful with using a DIY sewn aider like that. You don't want to find out how good your sewing is when its too late.

That can be done with one piece of webbing, should be very strong.

Does anyone have pics of this style with the steps folded and sticks stacked together? I feel they would be more stable than my offsets around the post.

Here are a few of mine on my Helium sticks. You will notice I did the mod making these 2 step sticks like DaveT. I made some 2 step and 1 step aiders. I think I want to go with all 2 step. I just lay them up over my sticks as I stack. I use the rope on my last stick to bind my sticks together as well as keep the aiders from flopping around. The steps create just enough of a hump to keep rope from sliding back up to the center of the stick.

When I use them with sticks, I just tie a one step loop onto each stick. I don't like an aider on a stick....I slipped once and banged into the stick....ouch

I am more stable with JUST an aider against the tree. I rappel down if I do that

Pilgrimhunter, did you go with a 3 step version of this aided? If so, how did it work this last hunting season?

No. I used them like pictured. I am getting 4 20" steps using them this way. Theoretically this put the top of my stick @ 80". Not sure I can reach high enough to use an additional step in my aider. If I was to change something I would probably shoot for an 18" step in the aider. Have found that I struggle to get the same height out of a strap step compared to a fixed step as the strap is a bit harder to get your foot in compared to a fixed step.

I will try and get a video made of my stirrups and the progression based on what I started with. My loops lay flat and everything just collapses in each other for better packability.
