Closer to complete. The camo paint is tougher than you guys make it look!

I think next I will wrap the outer edge of the platform with Paracord.

Speaking of, does anyone know approximately how much it will take to go around the perimeter?

Paint looks good bud. No clue on the paracord, I use the double step mainly when rotating around and just haven’t felt the need for anything else, so far... I did add some sand when I painted mine though

Thanks man!

I wasn't adding the Paracord for grip, just thought it would be nice for being able to feel where the edge is.

Question for any of the guys out there that use the plywood insert on primal or WE steps...do you guys have a gap between the plywood and that bottom cross bar or do you shave down the edges that contact the bar to allow it to sit directly on the cross bar? Thanks in advance!!

Going to try and build platform. Thinking that I should use a button and a ratchet strap to secure it to the tree because the seat welds look like they might not hold up to the coming over method. Going to get 2 LW replacement tree brackets.

How long should I make my bar?

Where should I place my seat on bar?

Thanks for any help!

Any thought on where I can get the tree brackets/stand offs for cheap without access to a machine shop?

@SloMo i want to make a “wheelchair” platform like yours. What post length do I need? Where do you mount the platform and versabutton?

Ebay was where I get most of them. You are looking for a shop rider foot platform. The post is 11/4" and the versa button is ? . Usually a little below the versa button which allows the strap to hold the upper cleat tighter to the tree . The lower cleat on a 8 " post should be closer to the bottom of the post and platform slightly above it or below it depending on where the adjustment bolt hits the post and how you deal with it. Good luck with your build and feel free if you need anything else . Glad to help out.

@SloMo so I should use a 8” post? Is there a specific spot to mount the platform and versabutton or do you just eyeball it’s placement?

I like to mount the platform a couple of inches up from the bottom and the versa button a couple inches below the upper standoff . You will need to mess around a bit and hopefully you will find the sweet spot quickly. Some of mine I used the versa button and the standoff on the same bolt on top. Just keep in mind the strap will decide the sweet spot . Once you get your build right you will love this platform. Good luck.

Has anyone used a carabiner to connect to the seat and connect the strap to the carabiner? Just seems like it would be easier to setup but I wasn't sure if the carabiner could take the camming action. Thanks

I always felt I needed a little more support on the seat.. like a support that would prevent any flex...but great job on the DIY. I enjoyed making mine. Used it for a year or two

Beautiful work @robertreed711

Now you have a season of use, could you or @shwacker confirm with the top double step is overly beneficial? Just trying to cut some weight if possible. Thanks!

I like it, it’s an extra pivot point if rotating around the tree. And you will get some foot fatigue and the step just gives more places to put your feet. I often have my heels on the platform and toes on the step. Puts my feet at a 45 and a more natural position when you’re leaning. It’s about 5oz if I remember right. I think the whole think was 3.75... so not a huge difference, but up to you and you can always add later. I believe DanO sells a step that’s 1.25” milled.

Thanks! I'm actually just finalizing my plans to put in an order with DanO. Not a major weight difference but possibly more upside. I can always take it off.
