DIY stirrup rope platform.

I am very new to saddle hunting so I wondered if anyone thought you could climb a tree with this stirrup rope platform if you had two tree straps instead of one. Just climb like you had a climber on instead.... lift knees pull up tree strap stand up pull up other tree strap and repeat.???? I only started saddle hunting this fall and so I just wonder if this is a ridiculous idea.
It's not a ridiculous idea. It's very labor intensive process though. I've done it a few times until I finally started messing with other methods, and it Is effective. But it isn't fast and it's hard than some other methods.
Like red said, there's someone who posted it about it recently, in s thread
. Do check that out too

Re: DIY stirrup rope platform.

Thanks. I did check out the other post last night. I may at least try it for a platform.

Re: DIY stirrup rope platform.

I think it has more merit as a type of "platform" than a climbing system.

I was thinking about this last night and I think you could use 2 amsteel whoopie slings to make this even better.
1. Put a bicycle pedal in a fixed/spliced eye loop that is big enough for your boot.
2. Attached the adjustable loop of the whoopie sling to your tether with a larkshead/girth hitch, or clip right to a carabiner, so you can change the height of your platform for comfort and different tree sizes.
3. Connect the two stirrups together at the bottom for leverage against the tree. You could use a 3rd small whoopie sling for max adjustability or just a static piece with two fixed loops.

You could use the lightest Amsteel (7/64) and be perfectly fine. The pedals w/slings would weigh less than a pound.

Just make sure the deer don't have their headlights on with those reflectors

I like the idea. Has anyone done this yet? I understand your description, but I'd like to see an example

I haven't tried it. It will be awhile before I can. Covered in snow.

I can make the whoopie slings with pedals, but getting up in a tree may take awhile.

I was thinking I might give this another try as a platform like the original poster. But I didn't like the rope type, so I thought I could use the foot loop attached to my hand ascender on one foot, and if I get another, I could use it for the other foot. So I just ordered another foot loop on Amazon and when it arrives I'll try it out. Gotta figure out which way is best to connect the two so I don't end doing a split like a tree climbing cheerleader, but I should be able to figure something out.

Re: DIY stirrup rope platform.

Ive been MIA from here for a while....I moved and only got to hunt twice last season :(

I Have a thread on here from a few years ago where I made some stirrups.
I used Webbing instead of rope. I didn't connect them together to keep me from doing splits though.
I'll have to bust them out and try that.

Mine was just a length of webbing with a butterfly knot in the middle to hang on a carabiner.
I tied loops in the ends for my feet...maybe Figure 8 knots?

When I did it, I didn't attach to my tree strap.
I girthed it with a separate piece of webbing and then used that piece as a gear hanger.

I used this rig as a Sit and Climb a few times.
It is a workout but can be done.

I'm going to experiment with this again.
Really wanting an ultralight rig
