Do you know these two? Shawnee State Forest

Buddy of mine just got back from OH. While there he chatted with a local in the parking lot at some public land. The local said theft of cameras is out of control. He started the season with 9. He's currently down to 2.

At that point I'd stop wasting the money and go back to boots on the ground scouting

I had a few stolen in southern Ohio as well. Seems that theft has gone up with their popularity and this public land resurgence. If it becomes a point of contention they’ll probably get banned on public land. I’ll be sad but maybe they should be.

I would say absolutely. Also depends if your just trying to kill deer or trying to kill a particular deer or class of deer.
I get that and I agree but is it worth it? Intel gets stale on public land quickly and they’re a target for humans and a deterrent for deer in areas where pressure is high enough to get them stolen in the first place.
I have no real stock in the argument btw. I’m just shooting the poop stain with you on it.

they also clue your competition in to potential good spots.

Worth it to me, yes. I think you’re right in that sometimes they do ruin spots and they probably do more harm than good for a lot of hunters. I know it’s happened to me before but you learn. If you start placing cameras inconspicuously and let ‘em soak you might find next years kill spot.

Shawnee state forest is just a few miles outside a minor city, Portsmouth, OH thats on a major drug route coming out of detroit. The local walmart just did a remodel where a lot of stuff just went into security cases.

No restrictions on cameras here in Ohio.

This crap goes on private properties as well. So its just a judgment call on where you can trust leaving equipment.
Portsmouth is pretty sketch, but the Ribber serves a pretty good steak.

That's Cam Hanes and Joe Rogan. Well, it's their bi product of brainless zombie followers who apparently do whatever they want when they want because #theworldismine.

Remove your game cams. Set them up wherever the primary parking area is and get them and their vehicle there. PM me after that's done.
You can learn alot about an area with a cam set on video mode watching a parking lot...

Sorry that happened to you @roosterstraw, that’s pretty pathetic behavior for a couple of would be hunters. They’ll never be a hunter in my book. Leave people’s stuff alone it’s not hard to do. You said they were all decked out etc….. they probably stole their gear too. I hope you get some kind of resolution.

Right here is a problem. What gives you the right to run surveillance on every other law abiding person out there.

I freakin' hate game cams on public. Nothing but issues. Every state in the country could ban game cams on public land and I would be 100% ok with it.

Everything that's posted in this thread and this is what prompts you to reply "as the problem". Take a hike and hatred of game cams elsewhere.

Your government says hi, hope you're not overly mad about that too.

I think you bring up a good point.
I thought it was illegal for a business to put up cameras without warning signs. And I think it is required for private as well.
I have never bothered anybody cameras unless you count mooning.

If I did have cams on public, I’d expect at least a 1:3 ratio of butt cheek pics to deer pics.
