I'm currently running dynaglide and I'm not a huge fan of it. I've been eye ballin the gear hoist but just want to know if its worth the weight and bulk?
i figure 8 my dynaglide. I hate that when I’m set up in my saddle and after I get my bow hanging having get that’s dynaglide put up. It’s always get caught on limbs, platform, sticts, etc.. I do have plenty of paracord around. I can try it but I think I’ll have the same problem.I have a gear hoist and don't use it. A main reason is that you have to keep the bow attached to it and the hoist attached to you while climbing down. Unlike paracord, if you toss it down, then it will zip to your bow and smack it. Climbing down with something tied to me is a pain.
I used to lay all my paracord out on the ground prior to climbing. This causes tangles and many issues.
I now use paracord in a figure 8, but I do not lash it tightly and do not hang the bundle off my pack. Instead, I stuff it loosely in my packs side water bottle pocket and let it feed out from there. On the end not tied to the bow, I have a small s-biner clipped to my pack so that I can't loose the whole thing. I unclip and toss the cord and small plastic s-biner to return to the ground after lowering bow. It works great.
I wouldn't say follow this video exactly, but it is one I found quickly showing the figure 8 wrap that allows the paracord to deploy without tangling.

Duck decoy rope. Smaller than Doyles, can be wrapped up in a figure 8 method, and doesnt tangle.
No tangles at all. Ill try to find the brand I have been using for the last few years, as I bought a role of it,Is it more tangle free than paracord, assuming the same figure 8 wrap?

That’s ”reel” slick! I looked at one similar, a scuba diving reel and probably the best of both worlds for an ounce counter. But I just figure 8 mine. However, I grab both ends and figure 8 both strands at once, so it’s like doing 20’ instead of 40’. Still deploys tangle free.I thought it was just me but Raisins hit on everything about a retractable I don’t like. I’ll add one more, fishing up gear with a retractable is a pain & I fish alot. Dynaglide on a gear reel for me - figure 8’ing sucks too. It takes about 20 seconds to reel in 40’.
