As I have said before, my youngest son got me back into bowhunting after many, many years. He's killed two public land does so far this year, but I had yet to release an arrow. That all changed a couple of evenings ago when I arrowed this private land 2.5 year old doe at 24 yards. I had one opportunity at 32 yards, but when she turned straight away, I had to let down my draw. Forty-five minutes later she appeared again at 24 yards straight behind me. I ran a Rage from liver to heart as she was quartering away. She went about 60 yards before piling up. Even though I heard her go down, I called my wife and asked her to bring out the Mountain Cur for his first blood trail of the season. By the time she and the dog arrived, it was dark. I got the dog in his tracking harness and led him to the site of the shot. He made short work of it and we were soon heading to the skinning shed.
I am enjoying my Kite and XOP platform. I'm alternating between chopped, rope mod Heliums and WE Stepps depending on where I'm going to set up. I use and aider with both.
