Florida quotas....discussion and results

It'll be my first time out there.....Im pretty excited. I would give the left nut to see a red wolf running wild. Our zoo has a pair I like to go watch when I take the kids.... but the chance to see an "extinct" critter in the wild...like a time machine

I've wanted to go hunt the island ever since I learned about it.... And now that I got some decent hunt buddies it looks like I'll finally get to go.... Fingers crossed for a mild hurricane season

FYI - If yall are looking at the reissues drop down (HINT HINT Starts at noon today!) make sure you pick the 2nd Reissue as the first one in each category is blank numbers, but the second one has the actual numbers available... Good luck all!

Will do. I’ve never been out there. Excited to go, but unsure what exactly to expect. Any advice is appreciated.

Heard this and thought of you

U guys been pretty quiet, reissues aren't being good to y'all?

I'm still trying for an archery quota but got the ducks in their rows to make sure I going to hunt in September...probably not opening day/weekend but better late than never.

Bayard, Cary, guana river, and St Vincent island quotas and I'll be in some quota free wma archery season...hardest part is deciding which quota free woods to hunt. I haven't used any days at work yet so I can get in there and hunt during the week. Family situation still isn't conductive for hunts far from home....the warden did give leave for the island hunt so I'm grateful for that.

Going to go poke around in the woods Sunday at 1 of my quotas.

U boys down south only got a couple more week....good luck!

You could always hunt Corbett

Why is this wma at the brunt end of jokes?

I've heard other joke about it too
Because that’s where “all the south Floridians” hunt. Kinda like for north Florida it’s Osceola… People use that so that others won’t know where they are really hunting….

I heard Corbett is where @JAYBO shot his 2 100” studs in the same morning:sweatsmile:

Its a problem that so many WMA's are limiting the number of hunters with quotas. In the south zone, I think Corbett is one of two only areas that does not require permits to hunt.

They don't allow exempt hunters in your local wmas?
My post above was me committing of why people hunt places like Corbett, they have few options without permits.

WMA's in my area do allow exempt hunters ... Within 20 miles of my house I have Citrus, Flying Eagle, Croom and Chassahowitzha, all exempt. Half Moon is about 30 mile from me, but is a non exempt wma. Green Swamp, Richloam and Jumper Creek areas are about a hour drive, all exempt.

Citrus, Croom, Chassahowitzha and Half Moon are non exempt for spring turkey.

To qualify for exempt you have to be younger than 16, or 65 or older, or meet the requirement to get a disabled hunting fishing license. I have a disability hunting fishing license.

A good majority of the northeast wma are exempt also if I'm not mistaken....my favorite local woods there is a handful of old-timers who hunt it every year and they're all buddies. Seems most are old navy buddies from the way they talk...I enjoy talking with them but they pretty sly and rarely ever give out any useful info...hehehe I know the general areas a couple of them hunt so I try to stay outta there.

Once this babies grown a little more I plan to start venturing out.....don't get me wrong, I really like some of my local areas to hunt but u can believe me when I tell u it's tough hunting. I'm ready to drive to some areas that are a little more target rich environments.
