Getting around branches? Linesman belt options?!

I was listening to the “Saddle Hunter” podcast this weekend and heard mention of a small amsteel “secondary” linesmen belt used for getting around branches when climbing with your main linesman’s belt.

I myself just bought some spurs (Flinginairos) and have been thinking a lot about what method I will use to assure my safety when I approach a branch I need pass when climbing. The small lightweight amsteel linesmen belt mentioned in the podcast sounds like a good viable option, but I’m curious as to what else works well.

What are you guys using and how? Any good vids out there showing the above scenario? What are some quick, easy and quiet methods of getting around branches safely?

Some of the guys are using a 2 in 1 flipline/lanyard.

Some of the guys are using their tether and bridge to at least be tied off. Others are carrying a second flipline. With only two D loops on the Kestrel, a 2in1 flipline is very viable.

I run double linesman belts, and both can act as a tether when I get to height. When I encounter limbs, the free line gets attached over the limb and the lower line gets unhooked and thrown over my shoulder. Whichever linesman belt is not in use at height turns into my tether and the other gets rolled up and put away till the climb down.

My tether and linesmans belts are the same with exception of one end of my linesmans belt being tied into my linesmans Loop. I just use my tether as a second linesmans belt. The micro amsteel secondary is cool but I’m already carrying something that works so why add another item no matter how light it is. This year I was thinking about making the little amsteel backpack tether g2 makes to my kit but decided to add a second carabiner to my linesmans belt and use it to hang my pack once tethered in.

Are you guys using (2) ropeman 1’s on lineman’s belt with caribiners when doing 2in1 flipline? Any pictures of this linesman belt? How long are you making these 2 in one belts? On kestrel are you hooking into bridge loops or using the lineman’s specific loops when climbing with spurs up tree?

Instead of a 2-in-1, I just use two separate ropes. They are both just a ropeman1 with a carabiner on one end, and an “overhand on a bight” with a carabiner on the other.
