Hawk helium sticks

I've seen a lot of patterns but I'm here to tell everyone, in my opinion, I don't believe I've ever seen a pattern better for climbing sticks. They absolutely disappear with the tree bark style pattern.

Do you know the exact brand and name of this pattern?

I don't remember what the name was exactly but I will get it and let you know. Trust me...you will not be disappointed!

Ya, because that is awesome. Did you dip them yourself, or have a shop do them?

A local shop. I screwed around with a dipping kit but figured out quickly that I would rather let someone else do it with the right tools. I have patients to tinker with stuff but not dipping or painting. It's not hard...just very time consuming. I'm probably too much of a perfectionist and it's very difficult to get everything dipped perfectly. Of course this is more info than you asked for but I just wanted to give you a heads up, if it's your first time.

I agree, that’s amazing. How did you do that? Does it dampen noise at all?

That's correct. I used a larger bit than the size of the amsteel to help feed it through. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that small cross piece of metal in the center tube. Start with a very small bit and try and dead center that brace. The first ones I did, I missed the center piece about half way through and now I have a slightly crooked hole through it. If you have access to a drill press that would be the best. Once you have the hole drilled through, take a round file and smooth off all of the burs l. Also, I put some of that heat shrink around the amsteel and melted it down to help with the possible abrasion.

Some guys put a loop in one end of their rope which goes around the cam cleat and then of course the other end of the rope through the cam cleat.

I believe it was around 65 or 75. It may sound high but you won't have any buyer's remorse after you see the end results.

When you attached your cleats did you use the existing hole for the tree strap bracket and just drill one hole ? or did you drill two new holes for the cleat being it would be a smaller diameter. (can't really tell from the pic's)
I recently found 5 of the cleats brand new at a rummage sale for $80, thinking I would try this mod I all ready have the versa button mod on my sticks but this mod looks nice!
One other thing there is a 1/2" ridge running down the middle of the sticks and the cleats are 1 1/4" wide any issues with the cleat moving or tilting right or left ??

Thanks Mark

that pattern looks like mothwing camo. Those do blend in well.

As for the amsteel going through the post, Dave is right that just scares the heck out of me. Id splice a loop and girth hitch the post or run a bolt through that hole with a decent washer and put the amsteel spliced loop behind it.
