Headlamp recommendations

Why do you prefer rechargeable? I actually prefer a headlamp that takes the same replaceable batteries as my other devices. Keeps things easy. Carry one set of spares. Don’t have to remember to recharge it, just replace they batteries when they die. (Having a rechargeable would seem to be just another thing to have to remember to do throughout the season. Knowing how Murphy’s Law works, I’d forget to recharge it and then remember I haven’t charged it in awhile as the light from the beam slowly dies when I’m a couple miles back in the marsh/woods, or as I’m attempting to track an animal…..)
Yeah I see your point and agree really. Truthfully I don’t use anything in the woods that takes normal batteries though. And I carry multiple ways to light things up if I need to. Just wanted something to wear on my head that has a good red light more than anything. Also just like the way modern rechargeable batteries work over traditional batteries. They either work or they don’t and there’s very little in between. Just a personal peeve of mine I guess.

I've shined a wicked light on deer, close. white they freeze up then take off . Red doesn't phase them. A good red light that you can walk with is way better than white

I love the nitecore HC68. Does everything you're asking and can be extremely bright. The ability to fade spot/flood lights is awesome too.

To completely get sidetracked on the "smells" tangent. For 30 years in the woods I've been afraid to urinate anywhere near my stand. Recently, I've read some research stating that unless a deer has a way to associate the smell of human urine with humans, it doesn't matter. You could pee off your stand and theoretically it not spook deer! This is hard for my old brain to reprogram! :D
Better yet, scratch out a mock scrape and pee in it and the deer will come calling. Works great, no lie!

Psssh, when I hit’em with mine they can’t see anything for an hour….it’s kind of like staring at the sun lol. Doesn’t seem to bother them, They just slowly stroll off….as long as they don’t have your wind.IMG_4036.jpeg

This is my "go-to" headlamp. Red & white. Not cheap, but well worth it IMO. Have had it for 7-8 years now, in all kinds of weather. Batteries are rechargable, only ever had one discharge fully once, but I keep a spare in my bino case, so no big deal there. The guy who owns the company stands by his stuff too, with good service from what I've heard.

I used this in Colorado a couple weeks ago. Worked really well. I took a power bank with to recharge it but it lasted all week with no issues. Wore it to bed in case I needed it in the middle of the night.

I've heard others swear by this! Imma give it a try this year.
I pee in all my scrapes. Works the same or better than any bottled product I've tried. I haven't filled up a dropper bottle over one before but I bet that would work great too. That bottled stuff at basspro is so nasty it's not worth buying. I'm sure you can get some good fresh stuff at a deer farm but it really dont matter. I pee in mock scrapes during the rut with a cam on em. Doe will smell it and come pee in it and then the chain reaction starts. Always a funny pic on the cams too if someone steals my card.
