Heater Body suit/ IWOM

Exactly! I'm just so sick of layering up a ton. It would be nice to just walk in, halfway wear the IWOM, then climb and zip in for warmth.
Unfortunately it’s not as easy as it sounds. Tried it this weekend and it was a pain. I have an iwom and had to walk almost a mile in. First it heavy and awkward to carry in the iwom or hbs. Second if you are climbing and trying to do it with the iwom even half on or in parka form it’s a pain because it’s so bulky and hard to work any ropes because it saggy and bags up near your waist. Third trying to get it to drop while up on your platform sucks because it doesn’t like to slip past the kestrel. Fourth it’s hard to adjust your saddle while under the iwom.
Mostly the thing I didn’t like was how awkward and heavy it was to pack in. As much as I like it and how warm it is I think I would just rather of the first lite sanctuary or incinerator. Also coming to find out saddle hunting in the frigid cold of late season Wisconsin is a pain in the ass. So much shot you have to carry and getting up and down and situated in the tree is a pain. Still trying to figure out best system for when it gets into the 20’s and below.

I hunt in MN. Finding out the best way, for me, to hunt in this cold weather is on the ground. Bring my turkey hunting chair in and scout till I find a spot worth sitting. Had a 6 point, doe and 2 fawns at 7 yards last saturday. Walked in light and layered as I cooled down.
Dont have the advantage of being up in a tree, but I dread setting up in the cold. And if it aint fun whats the point!

The hbs isn't light, but it rolls up like a sleeping bag and I strap it to my platform for the walk in. At the tree I hook it and my bow to my rope and haul it up when I'm ready. I drop it after the hunt, climb down and roll it up. It's such a game changer that i think it's worth the weight.

Is it noisy

Good point. I also have preset ladder stands on my property that i could use. I just feel like Ive invested so much money and time into making the full conversion to saddle hunting, feels like Im cheating when I climb up into a ladder stand. But really think that might be the only way to make it really easy when it gets below 30 (which basically starts in early NOV here). Its not worth all the extra packing and work getting up the tree just to be in the saddle. It sure is fun though, the saddle is way more comfortable and I love being able to face the tree and move 360. it just feels way more natural.

Thanks for this reply...that helps a bunch. Have you tried the FL Sanctuary or the Sitka Incinerator? I'm with you on carrying a bunch of stuff. I hunt mostly public and have some long walks in so I want to cut down weight as much as possible

Since I hunt public land, both of these issues are what I'm facing. I often just hunt from the ground because it's less hassle. With a gun it's not too bad but I do hate giving up that sight advantage. I have a few areas where I feel I just have to be in a tree. I also hunt some bow only places and I'll use a crossbow on the ground but it's still tough setting up and not getting busted at times. I hate having to climb a tree in the cold and then add all my layers on.

I'm considering going with something like a puffy jacket and pants just for the weight savings

This.

I've been watching the Cabelas Instinct down puffy jacket and pants for a while thinking they are my solution to cold Vermont late gun and muzzle loader seasons. Anybody used these?

Supposedly surprisingly warm and amazingly light and packable (fold up into pockets). I think they are designed for western deep pack hunts but they should work for like weight public land frigid temp northeasterners too. Pricey at $400 for the set. Watching and waiting for them to go on sale as Cabelas stuff often does. A whole year of watching with no sale yet.

Not many size options currently(m and xl). Wonder what the outer material is? Is this designed to be worn under or over?

It says mid layering but I was envisioning it as outer over base layers and fleece and whatnot. Not rain/snow protection mind you, but hopefully warmth.... and light/packable! That is my holy grail!

IF it doesnt have an outer shell thats windproof, doubt it will retain much heat. As an under layer, same thing, need that wind blocker over it.

You're probably right. My Holy Grail remains elusive.

I loathe carrying weight/bulk deep into the woods... that's how I came to this forum. Doesn't matter whether it's tree stands climbing sticks, or clothing. Weight/bulk sucks to carry.

Maybe I'm an IWOM candidate. At least it is one item and guaranteed warm. With layers I feel like I am bringing my closet with me in the woods and I often end up cold anyway.

Expensive to test and find out though.

All of this is further evidence of why I love October more than November and why I should probably just move south.

I have not tried the first lite or incinerator. But cant believe that a jacket and bibs would way as much as the Iwom. Plus you could wear the bibs in and just have the side unzipped. Im going to give them a try and see how it works. The Iwom is for sure warm and super comfy, well thought out. But thats once you're in it which is a pain.

haha I feel ya....I no long carry all sticks and stand in...I one stick it and use my saddle if I need a stand....I need to make a platform too....I've search for the last two years for some kind of lightweight clothing system to keep warm. I currently have Arctic Shield and while it's not super heavy, it is bulky. I does do ok for warmth even down into the 20's with decent layering but I want light weight, packable, warm, and quiet...is that too much to ask? lol...seems like if it's warm it's either bulky and or not quiet...ahh the search continues

yeah the Incinerator is definitely lighter weight than the first lite. FL is out for me due to weight. Over 7 lbs for jacket and bib. I think the Incenerator is 5.25 lbs. May not be able to get lighter than that

I’ve looked at the IWOMs for a long time. I was about set on one but the noise part bothers me. Are they that bad? I mean you’re not leaning against the tree like with a normal tree stand.

I’ve also looked at the Sitka Incinerator outer gear but dang that’s expensive.
My IWOM crinkles when I move due to the windproof membrane. It's louder than I like.
