Help. One in lock down

excellent tactic

used the other day for another reason

4 point bedded in front of my stand 15 yards away, didn't want to shoot him and wanted to get down and not spook him

i tried throwing granola bars at him but he didn't care, i tried grunting loudly at him and his eyes got big and his ears went back, then i tried a bunch of doe and fawn calls just with my mouth

a doe came in and he followed her off!

i didn't intend for that to happen, i just was trying to make noise at him that might get him to move off
Coyote howl does the trick

Speaking of all of this, just jogged my memory bank. But in conditions like this especially OR when the leaves are like corn flakes walking, change your gait a little bit and use a diaphragm turkey call and make soft putts, clucks and yelps every so often. I do this a lot carry it in my binoc pouch. Heck, typically its in my mouth the whole time anyways and its great practice for turkey calling getting those low volume calls in. This calms deer greatly and they think its just turkey's moving through the area. IT also doubles as a coyote howler or if you see a coyote or a fox or bobcat and want to try to call it in, you can do some predator screams or screeches on it quite easily. You can do a lot of different calls on a simple double reed turkey mouth call.

Hum. Some good thoughts. Been trying to drop things from my pack. Not add more! Lol. But a turkey call does not take up much. Keep saying I need to add one.

Just be careful on public land. Be sure to wear an orange hat and/or vest when making turkey sounds on public. Better yet, don't do it on public unless you found an out of the way honey hole. Still wear orange!!! There are yahoos that will still shoot at sounds unfortunately!!!

You might can but most folks cant and arent going to effectively make those calls on a yelper. :)
