Help with my DIY platform

I built a platform with an XOP seat, XOP standoffs and 1 1/4 6061 aluminum tube. I took it out today for a little testing and it didnt fare so well where the seat leveling screw hits the post.it deformed really bad when i stood on it. Im gonna re drill and move the seat up slightly anyway and im thinking of either using a 1/8 aluminum plate to strengthen that spot and/or using something like a flat screw cap or flat screw head to distribute the load better. Let me know what you guys reccomend.

reinforce it. Ernie makes a plate for that reason... I filled mine with bonds at that point and used a steel bolt with large head there

Dave is right. You have to reinforce it. I used a door hinge I had laying in the garage and cut it to fit with a dremel. Then you can pop rivet it on. Works great.

Is the tubing size needed for the XPO seat 1 1/4" inside or outside diameter?

If you need something stronger you can always use this.

What do you get for something like that? I found 1.25" aluminum tubing for about six bucks, just a hunch that this would be slightly more!

I have one left in the classifieds for sale.
Pm me with any questions.

I reinforced the post with a steel plate screwed to the post, added a 2" hex bolt leveling bolt to help distribute the load and cut the stick down to 9" total length. Then stealth stripped the post... I gotta say i really like the stealth strios. Easy to manipulate, very tough and very sticky. So far it seems to have done the trick but further testing is in order before i put it in the tree this year....

Had the same issue with one of my builds, I found a support that works really well for 1-1/4 square tube. I have the other half, PM if you think this can work for you.

Can these style platforms be used with a versa button and an amsteel blue rope just like my climbing sticks or does the fact that there will be side pressure as a platform make it better to cam the platform?

I’d say you would need to use the cam action of the seat to make it tight enough. I can literally kick mine from the side and it’s like it bolted to the tree. A versa button alone would be just like a climbing stick with side pressure.

Is there any completed projects using the XOP I Beam? I am trying to picture if it would be possible to position seat to be able to fold it up flat into the beam all while having a spot to mount stand offs after chopping the beam. I imagine I would have to flip the seat around so it folds down rather than the original upward motion. Im not sure if it would have anything to catch it that will allow the level screw to make contact with beam.

I made several videos when I first came up with the cam over platform. Others on here took the idea and made some further advancements which is what makes this site so awesome. They are on my youtube channel.

I used the XOP I-beam. I did put the seat on top of the I-beam. I strap in on the tree using the versa button and cam the seat with a second strap, it solid.
