High one lung maybe?

Can’t quit bud. Things happen all the time that are out of our control. You did everything you could! I have talked to two dudes here in IL this year that quit tracking because they were tired, and by the next morning they had donated deer to coyotes. Least you didn’t do that kinda crap (yes, I let them know how I felt) It’s rough, we go until there isn’t anything left to go on, then we choke it down and head back out. The rest of the day was probably a lot of you having the happenings of the morning on your mind, you will be alright soon enough. Get back out there and put him down.

I really believe his deer is dead and he has enough similar bucks (probably related) in the area (sounds like a good spot) to mess with his head based upon trying to remember a stressful event.

Even if the meat is ruined and a skunk gnawed on his butt....finding that deer dead and claiming the antlers/skull will put a period at the end of the sentence and he can better move on with the rest of the season.

A tracker or have some folks help him walk a grid will get this buck, I feel.

Damn dude. Did you go to the website i posted? I agree with raisins. Thats alot of blood for a muscle hit man. Find a dog. Or call some friends to do a grid search tomorrow. I wouldnt chalk that up quite yet...you got one lung at least. That wont kill a big buck sometimes, but not worth giving up yet. I lost the biggest buck of my life last year to shoulder hit. I never wanted to hunt again. Another dude shot him a week later. Shoulder hit bled like crazy for 600 yds n then nothin.

I just don't understand how the blood stopped if it was a mortal wound. It is possible the deer I saw jump the the hill was all together a different deer. Maybe the same one I bumped. In that case I have no idea which way he could have went. Which left me chasing the wrong deer.

Definitely look into getting another guy with a dog out there or grid search the area. I’ve never seen that amount of blood from a low brisket hit but that just may be my experience. A dog will tell you for sure if that deer is dead though

Just to add another thought, the other thing I've always noticed with just a muscle hit is that there will be pink meat hanging off the arrow as it pulls it along from friction. I don't see that in the pic, but it is hard to even judge blood color on a pic when you weren't there.

That’s a good point to add, shot a buck in similar circumstances last year and there was lots of muscle and fat and not near the amount of blood that was shown in the earlier pics.

The guy I called was off that site. I called him after 4. When he said he was done with work. Sent him a message. No response.

Try and see if you can find another guy. Most guys with blood dogs jump at any chance to put their dogs on a track. If I was in your state I know I’d love to put my dog on him for you. If you can’t find anyone with a dog though I’m sure you and a couple of buddies could do a grid search

So you guys are really leaning towards a single lung hit? Or strait through the liver? Is tommorow worth another look...

Dog tracker never called me back. I walked the wood line were I think he would have ran in. Lots of brown grass and green reeds. Couldn't find a drop of blood any where. I walked the whole edge of the feild, nothing. I slow walked across the back of the property on the other side of the road. At the end I bumped a nice buck. The glimpse I caught looked the same. Not 100% sure. But there was a good chance it was him. I checked where he was bedded. No blood in his bed. I am thinking I skimmed the bottom. I have no replay. But it's all i got. The only way to explain all the white hair. Bright red blood with no bubbles that stops after 100yrds. I would think if I punched a hole through the lungs, it would have blow some more blood out. It was the middle of the day, and usually have no issues spotting blood. I'm a full range of emotions right now. Kinda want to quit. Kinda wanna go back at it. Not happy with my ezV sight atm. Plus to start my day. I got one stick up, went to roll my head cover back to stay cool. Knocked my lamp off. Cut my hands up from the cold weather. Made it to the top and had my bow reel fall off. Had to go get that. Flooded my back pack because the top on my water bottle came loose. So over all. It's been a ruff day.
Don't give up and don't give up on the EZV bowsight. It's hard but sometimes you have days like that but it's what you make of it that counts.

100% worth looking. Call a tracker tomorrow too. They will drive a little ways to get their dog on a track. Look up shane simpson "callie chronicles" to see how much better they are then us at finding deer. Make us look like blind men.

If thats an absolute no go, get literally every friend you got and grid search for it. I think you got vitals for sure. But 1 lung isnt enough sometimes.

After that keep your eyes out for buzzards and ears listening for crows, coyotes, foxes.

This was a few years ago, but my buddy had his lab with him when we were tracking my doe. I knew it was a done deal and the dog was just along for the ride. That dog was never trained to blood trail or anything like that. She was on that doe in like 90 seconds. It was a pretty easy blood trail, but the fact that she was able to just run on it and find her right away blew my mind.....

I've always wanted a dog. This is just one more reason why

The family friends that own the farm were down for the night. She has a bassat hound. I should have grabbed him for a moment to see what he could smell.

All signs looked good. I’ve been on some grueling blood trails. Just yesterday the doe I shot with a huge 3 blade mechanical had zero blood for almost 100 yards. Like only a few drops near where she was shot and that was it. Exit wound plugged up hard with liver matter. Found her piled up and all blood was in her chest cavity. Never seen anything like that. I mean not having any blood. Almost anywhere you shoot a deer makes them bleed some. Anyway dead deer just the same. Still we had to grid search to find her.

Anyway not sure where you are in MI but if you ever needed a buddy to help you search I’d help out if you’re close enough. Sometimes helps to have an extra set of eyes on things.

If the coyotes don't get him. How long is he good for. Not suppose to be over 40 tonight.

**** way into tomorrow if its not over 40.

That basset hound prolly coulda helped. Short dogs have an easier time staying on it because their heads are naturally closer to the blood. Dont get distracted as easy

I'm leaning towards a single lung hit as well. If that is the case, single lung hits are tough and I've seen similar results. I've seen good blood for a certain distance, like 100 yards, then sometimes a large area and then nothing. I think when they stop and and stand the exit wound starts to clot up. I don't know if single lunged deer die because I haven't found one that I think I single lunged yet. It's tough to find a deer without a blood trail, especially when they don't run and lay down but keep moving.

Bowhunting is tough. You made a lot of good decisions. You backed out. You worked hard looking for the deer. You're just not always going to find it. It makes it that much more rewarding when you do. It sound like you're going to look again this morning and that is great. Regardless of the outcome, hang in there. It's a crappy feeling but it will pass. I'm far from a perfect bowhunter. After I don't recover one I always try to reflect and learn something from the situation.
