I have a kestrel and was wondering how some of you guys pack it in.(some sort of molle pouch ) I don’t want to wear it in I have a 3mile commute to the most my spots.I don’t have much room in my pack because I pack all my cloths in it and change close to my tree

Also has anyone figured out a way to cut some of the bulk of the kestrel kit

Maybe wrap it around your pack kinda like the saddle would go around your body? I always wore mine in but I didn’t walk that far either.

There are enough MOLLE system bags out there that will work. I like the idea of wrapping it around your pack to keep weight down. But at the same time. I like protecting gear as much as possible

I actually did this a good bit on my Midwest trip last year. I had about a mile walk through CRP. It was pretty cold so I had a few layers strapped on outside of my backpack. I'm an idiot and didn't consider the effects of this - got to my stand only to have my clothes completely covered in hitchhikers - at least I had something to do on that set...

On the walk out, I strapped the clothes on top of pack, then wrapped the kestrel over the top of all of it and used the waist and leg straps to cinch it all down tight. Worked like a charm. Of note - I stopped about 150-200 yards short of my tree to go ahead and dress and don the diaper. Didn't want to chance clanking buckles that tight to the deer.

3 mile hike to your stand?!

I wear it or put it in my backpack. It sounds like you need a lighter saddle.

I use a sit drag, but roll it tight and put it in my pack. If you have a heavy outer layer, id strap that to the outside and put your Kestrel in its place inside the pack.

This is what I thought until I spent two hunts pulling hitchikers(not the big easy ones to pluck, the tiny annoying ones) off my outer layers. That ripstop fabric works as a nice shield for the pack. having said that, if im not in CRP, in the pack!

I use a trophyline and wear it in. It only weighs 5 pounds and don’t even feel it when walking long distances.
