I got banned from AT just for mentioning a rifle in a post.I've been waiting for one of us to point out AT, thanks
Good point. I Wear it all the time. Very open open woods where I hunt.If you can't get high or in good cover wear snow camo, they look right through you.

I started wearing it cause one morning my regular jacket blew out the zipper. It was windy and I was cold. I had my snow camo jacket in my pack. I put it on over it mostly to break the wind. a Bunch of deer came in. They were there a long time. None ever looked at me. They never do. The other stuff? Every once in a while a doe would come and see a blob up in the tree. Bob her head a bunch of times and eventually go back to normal and walk off. It's very open here but I think it would work in regular woods as well.I've heard of people getting the snow camo Athens bows for this reason. It would feel really weird to me to wear white camo in the woods....but it is probably better.
I've had a very busy.....eventful week. Just checking back on another topic and saw your post. I've done some research on the 1-stick method and it appears there are several variations. Do you do the "old school" method going down with the stick or have rope to repel down? Thanks for your kindly response.....Creation is the best in the fall I believe.Went to 24ft tonight with the 1 stick(easily and timely), simply because that's what it took to reach cover. Setup on fresh rub and a heavy trail. Got to see a couple deer too. Best of luck @Alaska at Heart . I don't think you will be let down by a 1 stick setup. That said if you don't mind carrying a climber and it works for your situation, enjoy your time in Creation!View attachment 93184View attachment 93185View attachment 93186View attachment 93187
Predator fall gray is still my favorite.. I've had so many deer catch me move a little but when they look it's like they look right through you. I rappel down with a figure 8. I have no mechanical devices on my set up. I like the simplicity of it and never having to rely on devices that could fail. Others will disagree, but for the heights that I go, a mechanical descender seems unwanted. Good luck and stay safe out there my friend.I've had a very busy.....eventful week. I know over my many years of saddle hunting that I can hunt lower because I face the tree . I still hunt between 15 and 25 feet and cover has a lot to do with it. I'm a sitter most of the time so I am tight to the tree especially if you use a ring of steps for a platform.A saddle has nothing to do with it.
That's the camo I'v use since it came out . Early season I use spring green. I have two saddles that are Predator fall gray. One is my Areohunter flex and the other is Custom Gear Modification Cobra .Predator fall gray is still my favorite.. I've had so many deer catch me move a little but when they look it's like they look right through you. Great stuff
Always liked that pattern.. Very open. Still have a Jacket w/ that pattern somewhere. I've been using Stick's n Limbs Snow Camo.Predator fall gray is still my favorite.. I've had so many deer catch me move a little but when they look it's like they look right through you. Great stuff
No It's not a coincidence. Cover and height are good combination for staying undetected. The original question was: How high is high enough? That's not how i would have worded the question. Ya see, we CAN shoot deer from the ground... and we can shoot em from a few feet off the ground. On the other extreme, when we get too high, it's more difficult to find a clean line thru both lungs. What we are really trying to do is find the spot where we are least likely to be detected AND have good shot opportunities. Last season, i tagged 11 archery deer, no bait, which is a lot of hunting, and was never detected by a deer when i was in a tree. That's the goal: going undetected. I was always 20ft minimum. I am not saying i haven't had success lower, but the higher i go, the less likely i am to be detected. This week, i tagged my buck, after passing on a dozen in the last month. Before my buck emerged, two other 8pts preceded him. Neither detected me at 20 yds. I was 25ft up. It's not a coincidence. I go high and look for cover in trees with branches to hide in
... And put my feet on. I rarely use a platform, just a saddle and a rope can get me to 30+ feet. A straight tree with no branches is the last tree I want to hunt out of. Big, thick, bulky, branched trees are the best to hide in.
