So the pillow doesn’t count?
How old you are: 23
When you started: 8? started in third grade and shot a doe out of an old wooden tree stand with my dad.
How many seasons: 15 I guess. started bow hunting last year.
Where you're from/where you generally hunt: Alabama, hunt private in south Alabama and started hunting public in Georgia this year when i moved over the summer.
And how many deer you've kilt!: 7 or 8, 3 bucks and 4 or 5 does including today. All with a gun except for the doe today.
My newbie answer: not enough.
Real answer: 37, 3rd year hunting, archery only for now, 2 shot 2 killed so far. Maryland public almost exclusively, with two sits in PA on private that resulted in nothing.
Next season early/mid season update- added a year and 3 deer so far. 38/6. Hoping to make those two numbers get even closer.Post season update- still 37, 3 deer now, making progress.
To the best of my knowledge, I'm at 56 as of today. Funny, even though I don't "get excited" shooting nanny goats, my back still cramps after the shot. Definitely still get a little adrenaline jolt out of the whole ordeal.
19 bucks now. Blanked in '21, doubled up PA and WV in '22. We'll call it 25 does.Whip em' out boys!
How old you are
31
When you started
age 12 hunting been roaming the woods since I could walk
How many seasons
19 with minimal hunting first 2 years of college and first 2 years after. We'll call it 17 adjusted seasons.
Where you're from/where you generally hunt
From Western PA grew up hunting mixed woods/farms. Spent a couple years in urban DC area then several years in Pgh. Urban experience, no thanks. Now live and mostly hunt in Central PA. Rural hunting is way better. Vast majority public, some heavily hunted private. Never hunted cherry private land in my life. A few scattered out of state public hunts. More of that to come.
And how many deer you've kilt!
Coming up with 15 bucks I think I got them all. Approx 20 does. Bucks pretty even distribution of scrounges up to 5 pretty dang good ones for this part of the country. More rifle kills in my teens but mostly bow since. We are a one buck state, man how different my numbers would be if not.
How did I measure up, lol?
Now 42, 6th deer season and at 44.5 kills (I gut shot a buck last night and am meeting a tracker this morning to find him so hopefully will be at a round 45 kills by lunch time).I first posted on this back in 2019 so ill update too:
As of 12/14/2022:
How old are you?
Age 41 (dam I got old)
When did you start hunting?
Age 37
How many seasons?
This is the 5th season
Where are you from?
Tennessee
Where do you hunt?
100% TN public land
How many deer have you killed?
37 (only 1 buck out of that 37 would score over 110"- im starting to understand what folks say when they say hunting a mature buck is like hunting a totally different animal than spikes and does, but im working towards it. ive just really enjoyed learned how to kill deer and the family loves eating them so I kill as many as I can for now)
How old you are: 33How old you are: 32
When you started: 10ish.. I'd say I didn't actually start hunting hunting til I was 24
How many seasons: Due to college and getting grounded from hunting 1 year in high school (long story ) I'd say no more than 15 years
Where you generally hunt: 100% Maryland up to this point
And how many deer you've kilt! 27
8 antlered, 19 antlerless
5 private (2 antlered), 22 public (6 antlered)
1 rifle, 7 shotgun (3 antlered), 19 archery (5 antlered)
Add another 3 with the compound at this time... I'm now 35 and I've been on the pickier side since 2017 (and moved to PA), so my numbers are not exponentially increasing lol. I am now entering the WKTLT era (With Kids, Therefore Less Time) so I did reevaluate my goals and expectations for this year and possibly the next few... My PA goal now is +2.5yr legal buck (accomplished for 2023) instead of a +2.5yr "solid buck", and a few does for meat. Out-of-state goals are whatever trips my trigger, with no expectations.I'm currently 33, now in the shadow of 34... I started deer hunting in 1999 (I was able to turkey hunt in the Spring of 1998) at the age of 10, which is the minimum legal age for NJ and the age of my first harvest. I've never missed a season since then. When I lived in NJ: I hunted the archery seasons with the compound, muzzleloader seasons with an inline, and shotgun seasons with either buckshot or rifled slugs. Preference in that order, as well. Now that I live in PA: archery season with the compound, rifle season with a centerfire rifle, and primitive/late season with the compound. I started hunting PA about 5 years ago, when we moved to where we now live, and I've only harvested 14 deer since 2017... In NJ I hunted about 75% public and 25% private land, and now in PA it is 100% public.
So, to tally it all up, it gets kinda gray lol... Looking back at my half-a$$ records: I'm somewhere North of 120 with the compound, 36 with the muzzleloader, and 11 with the shotgun. Final tally puts me above 167, currently, and I'd say less than 185!
To put it in perspective: I hunted 3-5 days per week (morning, night, or both; depending on school/work) from 2006 through 2012. The other years it wasn't quite that much, and it will never be as much as I want to! To put it lightly, NJ has liberal seasons and bag limits (often split into zone sets with individual harvest limits), and I took advantage of it (I didn't pass much if it gave me an ethical shot opportunity). We ate every single deer that we harvested, as well. My family ate about 18-20 deer per year. Me, my wife, and son don't need as much and I have become much more selective in my "old" age, too.
I've killed three deer from the saddle, so far!
You may surprise yourself, I've killed 3 of my best 5 since WKTLT and still very much in it. But my wife is a saint, we adhere to quid pro quo, and I pivoted my whole career to have more schedule flexibility.I am now entering the WKTLT era (With Kids, Therefore Less Time) so I did reevaluate my goals and expectations for this year and possibly the next few..
