How to climb HUGE trees with many limbs

Looking at that picture and being the son of a logger myself....I can tell you without a doubt, you wouldn't want to tangle with that fella! :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Thanks! Wow, that pdf makes it look like I’m way to dumb to do that! looks like I would need a pro to come teach me! And it looks like $100’s of more dollars in gear! But it does look like it would do the trick.

It’s easy. Fun factor is crazy high too.

Would this also work with a ropeman? So you could just put a really long line from hunting height to ground then clip your carabiner on to say your bridge, then the ropeman onto the safety line and just slide it up as you go?

You should not use your ropeman like this. The goal of the lifeline is to catch you in the event of a fall. A ropeman is designed to hold your static weight as you ascend, not to catch a fall. There is a good chance that it would damage your rope and fail in the event of a fall.

What would you recommend? Would a prussic knot be better or what method do you think?

Also remember a prussik only gets hard to move after you put weight on it. It’s easy to move up a lifeline but it helps to either tie the bottom off or tie it to your pack and use it as a pull up rope once youget set up.

Don’t use ropeman to catch a dynamic fall. We use them for easier adjustments in pretty static situations.

Look into DRT as well. (Doubled Rope Technique) That's how I climb trees as an arborist. As @BassBoysLLP said, use throwline and a throw weight to set the rope. I'll be leaving some paracord in trees that I'll preset before season starts. Then I'll use the paracord to pull my climbing line into the tree. You could also look into SRT with footlocking and a prusik, rather than buying ascenders. Good luck, and be safe!

+1 I haven't climbed very many White Oaks but it sounds to me like a split tail system would be a good choice. If there's that many branches use the flip line and tether to make it a secured free climb. If the tree is conducive to it that's a quick way to get up a tree.
