Ok, guys, I am new to saddle hunting, aka, never done it... So I am looking at getting a Guido's Web in XL or an Aero Hunter.

Both of these setups are basically 400.00 - I don't want to spend $400.00 but 1) I only tree hunt 2) I hunt archery, shotgun, rifle and Muzzle loader 3) I am pretty crafty and I am willing to sew. weld and glue anything 3) I only know of Guido's Web, Aero Hunter, and Sit n' Drag - are there other options? 4) I am a strong fat guy - some say a "big" guy but that is a p.c. term. I am 5. 8" 270lb, but I do strong man heavy lifting so I have a physique to match...

Any help or insight would be very much appreciated!

What are you looking for in a saddle? Lighter and more mobile, or more comfort? You can't go wrong with either. The aero is smaller and lighter and the web has more padding and is more comfortable but also larger. I would stay away from the sit and drag. It is not rated to be used above ground level and being a bigger guy you don't want to test that out.

Remember that whatever saddle you choose, you will be able to use it to hunt out of every tree you hunt out of. So IMO don't let the cost of a saddle deter you because its similar to a climber and will provide you with more opportunities.

I hope this helps, good luck and let us know if you have more questions.

RedSquirrel is right.

I'll throw out a Trophyline Tree Saddle. I've hunted out of one for 6 or 7 years and I have no complaints. They aren't made anymore, but you can find them pretty easily on here, Archery Talk, and ebay. They're comfortable and easy to use and modify. They're also pretty much bomb proof. I've not used the Guido or the Aero version.

Thanks for the advice guys!

-RedSquirrel : Comfort is more important, good question... I was using an X-Stand climber all last year, it was less than 12lbs, but so uncomforabtle and I started to fidget after an hour. I tend to do four hour and five hour sits. So that is why I am willing to pay the money for qualliyt. I know I will probably spend 100hrs minimum in the tree stand from Sept - Dec., Right now I think I am going to head your advice and get the Guido's Web.

-G2outdoors: Good cal on the Tree Saddle, that might be my plan B if I dont get the Guido's Web or Aero Hunter. The only concern for me regarding the older gear is that the manufacturer insist that the saddle/harness to be removed from service after five years.. I am sure this is just a liability thing but if I die falling out of a tree in an old saddle my wife wont get that big insurance check and probably will sell all my guns and archery gear for what I told her they were worth... gotta leave her with a better payout, ha ha. But seriously, I do like that you can mod the Tree Saddle, crafting gear is part of the hunting process. I never was an "out of the box" hunter.

Thanks guys! Now if anyone wants to sell a lightly used XL Guido's web to the new guy, hit me up!

Update : Just bought a Guido's Web from their online store. Now the wait. Any advice on using and modifying this bad boy would be appreciated. Thanks RedSquirrel and G2Outdoors for the advice.

You don't mess around! I love it!!!!

You'll fit in just fine around here.

Regarding the the Trophyline date - my saddle is over 10 years and old is as strong today as it was in 2004. They don't wear out. You are right when you mentioned that it's just a CYA liability thing.

Wow that was quick! I'm sure you'll be happy! After reading your reply I was going to add that the aero hunter can be adjusted to be very comfortable, it just takes some more work. The web was designed for comfort. The web is bigger than the aero hunter though. Anyways I'm sure you'll like your purchase and if you ever decide you want to switch there is usually no problem selling them on here.

Thanks guys! A client just payed me today and I decided to pull the trigger on the GW before I wasted my money on bills and my mortgage.

CT bow season starts sept 15 and I need to practice before I embarrass myself in front of the squirrels and other tree dwelling critters.

Really appreciate the fast replies, gents!

Starting this season with a new bow, new arrows, new stand, new release, if only I could get some new knees...
