I tend to use KUIU stuff. Wait until they have a 25% off sale and it’s not too pricey. Their kenia hooded jacket is super quiet for a stand alone piece. I typically wear their guide hooded jacket and then throw on a down jacket underneath it once I get to my hunting location. Best to have a layering system on public land where your hiking in a bit to hunt. Technically these are hooded jackets not just hoodies.

+1 on the Kenai Jacket. I have been using mine going on 5 seasons and its held up amazingly. Needs a wind breaking layer over for sitting still it but its great insulation

The main point of the hoody is the front pocket. That hand warmer built right in. I would take the connected front pocket over a hood actually.

Someone needs to make a pullover like the Asbell pathfinder that is wind proof, covered zipper by face, pit zips, draw string hood and bottom, in either wool or fleece with an awesome hand warmer pocket (possibly a removable liner for the pocket). Jackets are a dime a dozen.

I don't entirely disagree but then shouldn't it be called a pockety instead of a hoody? :tearsofjoy:

So I'm going to start on my hoodie next week. I found a green prepper pattern for an anorak. I'm going to try and make 1 sized to fit. If that turns out, I'll then make an insulated 1. Should I insulate it or just make a puffy style jacket and just use it like a Columbia style jacket (insulation can be removed)? I see the pros and cons of both.

I’m a big layering guy but I like to keep my layers interchangeable.

Interesting but no connected hand warmer pocket? No thanks.

I think the best that I have seen so far is one of the Asbell products.

Anyone have experience with the First Lite Sawtooth Hybrid Jacket? It's not quite the hoody we've been discussing here, but seems like it could be a great alternative. Asking because it's 20% off on their website right now, so would be a decent time to buy, if so.

It’s a solid piece in their line...the shoulder construction is a bit snug (at least on me) and restricting...so, I buy Medium in everything First Lite (minus the Sanctuary set which I went with large)...but I got the sawtooth in a medium and the shoulders were extremely uncomfortable...had to size up...so you may want to bump a size over your normal size to get it to fit correctly...but it’s a great piece...I wear it as an outer layer in October and a mid layer in November, December, and January.

I have a friend that loves his. Thought about jumping on that deal myself.
