20191123_110535.jpgEven though this is in a very rural and conservative area, hope it doesn't hit the liberal news from the closest city. Stopped and talked to them yesterday before taking the picture of this sign, mostly because I wanted to assure them that not every bowhunter is a mentally challenged tool. The dog is only a pup, 10 months old. Whoever shot it did so with a field point too. I'm betting some jerk neighbor, or some "hunter" who leases land close by. Even so, lady said the pup had gotten loose for about 10 minutes.

That’s horrible! I hope the pup recovers and the jackass who shot him is prosecuted. Two weeks ago A man posted on Facebook a pic and story about his Labrador being shot and thrown in a creek. The dog was wearing a color with the owner contact information on the tag. This happened in about 30 minutes north of Baton Rouge. There are too many people obviously that think this sort of thing is ok.

This happened in NJ recently (last season or the previous...cant recall). The guy shot it with a broadhead. He said he thought it was a coyote. It was a suburban area with houses all around. He reported it. But there were a raft of new "safety" laws that almost got passed. Most of them would have made it very hard to hunt many areas. Luckily the furor died down but it was real close. It made us all look like fools.

This guy reported it, I'll give him some credit and his "sign".

Put up a sign next to it and say because you didn’t keep your dog on your property. Leash law and such

So a pup gets loose for 10 minutes and it's ok to put a field point thru it? That's the same kind of thing I'm seeing on AT. You can bet your bottom dollar though, if the news got a hold of it, EVERY hunter turns into a blood thirsty thug with no feelings, and every anti-hunting and anti-weapon group would push for more legislation AGAINST hunting and weapons. Think 5 years ahead, not 5 seconds.

Also, how hard is it to catch a friendly pup and take it home? I'm certainly not fond of dogs running willy nilly, had an old neighbor that didn't care about others. One call to the county dog catcher solved that, but c'mon man, it's a 10 month old pup.

So you assume or know it’s a hunter? I find that hilarious. Field point from a hunter to kill a dog during hunting season. Think about it for more than a second. I assume it’s a pissed off home owner that the dog gets out 10 minutes at a time to chit in my yard 3 times a day. Or maybe one of those pit bulls that never bit anyone until it mauled the 79 year old grandmother. I know my dog will never come home with a arrow in it unless someone trespasses. I keep my dogs up

I loose chickens and turkeys every month to neighbors like the ones that put the sign up. There inabilities to care for there dog are now on the news and a blood thirsty hunters problem. Sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own actions.

I guess I need to pay for there health care and college loans to.

I’m sure this is ok? My trio of royal palm turkeys were in the cage but now there eaten and the neighbors dogs are in the pen.

I understand the pain on both sides of the issue . In our state it is a felony to kill a collared dog . Also we have a leash law, dog owners can face a hefty fine if they do not comply. I see it as a people problem not a dog problem. A dog just does what it does when it is not in control by its owner .

We used to get dogs running loose in my grandparent's yard when I was a kid... they lived out in the country. Grandpa had a multitude of guns at his disposal to take care of the situation. His weapon of choice? My Daisy bb gun... one pop in the butt and they never returned. And their families got to keep their pets alive and without holes through them.
If a dog possess a threat, is viscous or killing livestock... different story. But a 10 month old pup? Likely uncalled for.

I think the problem is, it doesn't matter who did it. In every anti hunter eyes or every family who's dog has been shot. It's a hunter. Not some random guy with a bow. This leads to anti hunter sediment.
I had permission to hunt the property adjacent to my ex wife's property. My son's black lab was shot. Perforated it's diaphragm. I would never shot a dog. The land owner found out someone was shooting dogs and every single person lost permission. Over 200 acres gone. I paid over 2 grand in vet bills.
Shooting a dog because it trespassing, off a leash or is chasing a deer might be ethical or moral in your eyes. But few are gonna agree with that.
A dog is not the same as a deer. Studies even show we have more empathy for dogs than other humans.

Call the police, file a small claims suit, or god forbid talk to the owners. Its not right for dogs to be on the loose but there's better ways of dealing with things. Hunting is not a right like the 2nd amendment is. Public opinion determines if we can continue to hunt. We need to take that seriously.
As far as paying for their college loans and health care, I seriously doubt anyone asked you to pay for the huskys student loans or health care...
