Well, Mr. Eberhart has done it again. He scored this massive Northern MI buck on opening day of the 2014 Michigan bow opener.

Here's the post on Mike Avery's facebook feed: https://www.facebook.com/OutdoorMag...09675394448/10152735498589449/?type=1&theater

My hat's off to my Eberhart for snagging this stud. Let's all congratulate him on a job well done.

And since we know he's a member of this forum, we'll be expecting the complete rundown of how he took this bad boy soon :D

Still don't know how that old man does it!!! Ha Ha  John is a good guy and GREAT hunter, here is a few other pic he sent me. Stud of a deer for sure, maybe I should read his books or watch his videos.

Thanks,
Boswell

What a beautiful buck! Congrats to John. I hope he stops by soon to tell us the story. I also hope he got it out of the tree he told us about setting up last spring!

And I bet all of you guys are glad that John never entered the hunting contest

That is a real bruiser! After watching John's videos and talking with him on the phone it's no surprise, he's methodical and has a system for finding, patterning, and then hunting mature Whitetails on public or private land. All kidding aside when it comes to hunting mature Whitetails he's all business. Congrats John well done!

Roger

That is a stud! That goes to show you how effective his system is. Do the work and you'll get results! I just had a nice conversation w/ him last week and he never mentioned it. That also goes to show what kinda guy he is, took time out of his day to talk to some guy he's never met, give me some helpful advice and at the same time he's got a slob of a buck on the ground.Never mention it once! I admit I probably would have. I found him down to earth and also apparently humble.

I would like to here more of this story. Sounds interesting. Is it on this web site?

Heck of a story. They all definitely don't come that easy! Also was wondering about the story of the other tree that someone mentioned he set up last spring. Is that on this site as well?

That kind of early spring scouting and preparation usually leads to success. Setting up trees in the rain is one of my old tricks. Don't like to set trees up in the fall but if you have to then pick a good rainy day. Glad to see I wasn't way off base. Wife thinks I'm nuts on those days.

Thanks guys, I just found this thread.

I've only been out here times since opening day but will be out a lot in the next 2 weeks.

I wrote an article for Bow & Arrow about that buck otherwise I would share it with you. After it's printed I will post it here.

When I'm on the phone I typically don't mention my stuff because I'm trying to help whoever is on the other end, after all the call was not about me.

Sometimes I may come off as a bit overbearing when I post something of fact and that's because I struggle with mediocrity and hunters that bloviate about things they know absolutely nothing about. I am on my city council and I deal with people who buy into whatever someone says without any research. It's like watching Waters World on the O'Reily Factor (people on the street that have no clue what's going on). However, I do apologize if I offend someone because I'm trying to get hunters to pay attention to technology and take advantage of the technologies that work (and many in the hunting marketplace don't).

Not to sound egotistical but I am old and have tried about everything there is to try and weeded out what doesn't work and try to educate on what does.

By the way, the buck I took was the first buck in probably 20 years (in Michigan) that wasn't a direct result of post season scouting. Found him and set up on him during pre season.

Just trying to make hunters more successful is my goal.

John, You didn't come off as overbearing to me. You seemed like a hardcore bowhunter who was willing to help someone. I too also try to help people if they ask and truly are willing to learn. That's why I reached out because this guy is always willing to learn new tricks. BTW I really appreciated you taking the time to answer my saddle questions. The saddle will be incorporated into my hunting style as will some sort Scent Lok of Scentblocker. Thanks again, Rob in Montana Hit it hard and good luck hunting. I'm envious. I only get to hunt weekends this Nov, plus maybe a few sick days.Hopefully I can get it done but I'm not optimistic. EHD has hit my area pretty hard the last 3 yrs. 60-80% of the deer are gone. Mature bucks are few and far between and I still haven't located one.
