JRB Hitch Climbing

One thing I need some help with is understanding the rigging of your hitches on your main line. I see clearly your initial attachment to your bridge biner and the garda foot loop (your left side) with the ascender hitches "pointing" up one of the descending lines of your initial SHH. I can't see very clearly what is going on with your right side attachment. I think it's because I can't tell in your video where the tag end of that right side rope is. You end up with double lines going through your right side rope control biner and I have no idea why there are 2 lines, nor which represents the tag end. So I can't really tell which way these ascenders are oriented on the rope, which I think in turn causes me to struggle to understand your transfer method. I've watched it over and over, and I'm probably just being an idiot, but I can't seem to spatially work out what is going on. Appreciate any insights you have.

Its JRB Ascender hitches facing upward for progress capture. He has a separate video of this hitch and how to tie it and from there this new video just encompasses a new way to utilize the hitches while JRB hitch climbing. The video was a little confusing but a few watches and some practice once you have the system set up and its golden. But to you initial question theyre facing what i would call upward in order to capture progress as you slide them upward.

That's what I assumed, but I guess I then don't understand how the transfer is done to the 2nd higher hitch. Are there additional ascender hitches on the line that come into play? If so are they oriented differently now that one of the original SHH descending lines is now going up the tree towards SSH #2?

I've watched the ascender hitch videos and feel good about my understanding of these parts. I just can't see and/or understand very clearly how the transfer part of the hitch climbing method works.

Hmm ill have to rewatch it to see what you mean with the transfer, its just clipping from one to the other but as your leap frogging up the hitches all stay in the same orientation, youre pulling slack through the top of the hitch to make the next SHH, if you were you pulling slack from under the hitche and make the SHH then it would be upside down. Trying to say this without confusing you further lol

Like I said, I'm mostly just being an idiot here. I just watched again and now I see where the 2nd (right side) ascender hitch came into play when he installed the second SHH (it was already attached below the new SHH with slack between the two). The transfer makes sense to me now.

I stil can't quite comprehend why there are two lines going through the rope managing side biners, but maybe that will make sense once it warms up and I can get actual vs mental experience.

This is exactly what I was envisioning and worrying about. Now that I see the slack clearly above the ascender hitch it makes much more sense.
Thanks!

Holy crap! There is a lot going on with this method. I am way to much of a keep it simply guy to even attempt this….

I had another 12 hour day and just catching up here. I'm not completely clear on where the latest video lost anyone but I feel bad if that happened. Because I was trying to be clear....

1. There are 2 friction hitches on each side of the rope.
2. I set the first saddle Hunters hitch in the tree and attach myself 2 the left side.
3. With a mile of slack in the middle of the Rope, while still on the ground, I attached myself to the other two friction hitches. The lower one goes on the other beaner for my garda and the upper one goes on the other beaner on my Bridge. It's important not to tie them on the same Carabiner because we don't necessarily know which one will need to disengage and one is always loaded and one could block the other.

4. The Climb itself seemed pretty obvious and so I won't go through that.

5. At the top, when we are at height we gotta free up one one of the friction hitches on our short bridge, whichever one is not loaded, so that we can connect it to our Long Bridge.

6. The very last hitch I tie on the tree trunk is always the jrb hitch, because I will need to retrieve it from the ground when I'm done.

Please let me know if anything it's still unclear. I'm happy to do another video, I just want to plan it out better.

No worries. It's my mistake. @The_Fit_Ness_Monster straightened me out. I wasn't seeing the 2nd friction hitch pair being below the mile of slack. That settled everything once I did. You were very clear, as always. I was just not seeing the obvious.

No need for a new video from my viewpoint...other then one that covers a new 40-foot rope version.

Because i have created a new system dedicated to hitch climbing, i probabky should start a new thread, but for anyone on this thread who was waiting for an update, here ya go:
